How to achieve that neat clean look rich people have?

Well in terms of travel, there’s no question that spending more means you spend less time hot, hurrying, walking far or crumpled into a small seat. That’s a lot of what you get for the extra money. So you can stay less rumpled.

It’s just like you look at them and they look normal at first glance, but there’s… is it just the total and complete confidence that money gives you to know that you can say eff you to 100% of life’s little miseries? I really don’t know what it is, I don’t know enough truly rich people who have this outward look, but there is something there.

Personally I think it’s expensive ash clothes that most people have never heard of (Brunello Cucinelli comes to mind as the most obvious example) and the confidence that money can fix most human bound problems, and connections can pave the way.

Like Donald Trump looks?

Or Elon Musk?

Or Jeff Bezos?

If you look at pictures from “society” functions (ie, charity events, opening nights, etc) you’ll see that rich people look a little more normal in candid shots.

Looking at pictures from the NY social diary. My observation still holds:

The woman in the second picture is wearing a white Chanel jacket (from several seasons ago though). But those are the stuff that when you are in that circle, you just can tell immediately

And it's ill-fitting and unflattering.

Woman in first social diary photo looks like she's trying too hard. Woman in second looks comfortably upper middle/upper class.

Read Paul Fussell on Class.

It’s not just that. It’s who you know, where you stay, what you’re exposed (and not exposed) to. It’s a certain level of expectation.

Well I’m not the who to know, I don’t stay in the those places and if I’ve been exposed to the right things and not exposed to the wrong things it’s been accidental. My only brushes with what I think OP is referencing is just funny little glancing blows. I know nothing about how these people live (unless you count reading about them in NYT or thinkpieces here and there). I’ve just noticed that, to me, they tend to look serene and confident. I don’t have that, I am from working class people and that sticks to me like glue. Oh well.

How many times do you think the middle guy in photo #2 refolded his pocket square? He looks ridiculous.

They are obviously generally slender but how the clothes fit them, they don’t look frumpy but neat and clean. The men have neat short haircuts and the women have straight shiny hair.

I want tips as I always look sloppy!

One of the most ridiculous posts I’ve seen in DCUM…

There’s special body wash “rich” people use and the water is gold flake infused. Gives them that “rich and polished” look.

OP, share a photo of someone who best represents your current look.

Op here, yes I don’t know how to find a photo that displays it. Lol

It means well, being clean, having your clothes really well cleaned and ironed, and having your hair under control and shiny shampooed look. Makeup and teeth should also give a sense of cleanliness. Hence the looser cuts of Brooks brothers etc, but everyone’s hair looks so shiny and clean.

In Europe they do like close tailoring and fashion but they just aren’t as “clean” looking. They don’t shower as much as American wealthy people, and don’t care to have their hair shiny and clean. Plus they walk a lot outside so it would be a pointless effort. In the Middle East, they are super into grooming as a way to show their respect but totally different clothing and style is different and for women about being feminine. In Asia it’s about looking “new” not necessarily “clean”.

I just say this all to point our it’s not all rich people- it’s culturally specific.

This is such a weird false stereotype from decades ago to hold onto. PP, have you met a European in the last 30 years?

Actually yes- I am in Europe at least once a month for work. I work at a nice company, interact with a lot of people, and I completely stand by this assessment. Especially with regards to washing and blow drying hair, but also generally speaking.

NP. I also don’t think that Europeans are lacking is general cleanliness. I think that some Americans are bathing excessively. Every ‘How Often Do You Shower’ post here has a strange cohort of people who regularly shower 2-3x daily and they’re not usually exerting themselves at the gym or outside.

Americans also tend to wash their hair daily and overprocess it.

No tans, neither yellow nor blindingly white teeth, no fashion that shows what decade the photo was taken in, clothes are neither too tight nor too big, jewelry is there but not flashy, etc. Classic takes a middle road.

This, and you notice this too in the top ranks of corporate setting. Look at female CEOs. Not all are slim, not all are tall, not all are natural beauties. But what you notice is that they all look "inoffensive" and "stable." By that I mean, hair is tidy, teeth are clean and generally straight but not super fake veneers, brows are groomed. Clothing generally fits well but does not scream anything other than competence and stability.

Most wealthy people I know don’t look like that. They don’t care that much, because they don’t have to. It’s the newer “rich” people that take such pains.

I’ve read all 7 pages and this comment still has me laughing.

I do know what OP means though - clean, neat, whites stay white and in place. It requires lot of regular beauty maintenance but I have no idea why they still look nice in the elements.
