Yeah I don't know a thing about her but while she is obviously very good looking and rich, she looks super stoned in every picture there. And pretty wrinkled - clothes, not face - in a bunch of them, too. |
The Preppy Handbook was from 40 years ago! You don't think anything's changed since then?? |
Absence of tattoos has always been a class signifier. Along with absence of multiple piercings, but that one has relaxed. |
I was recently in a lululemon on the cape during our vacation, a few mothers and daughters were there as well (I was there with my 18 year old, who objectively has a beautiful smile, thick hair, thin body,, etc. You know....Youth basically) But I digress....I was taken with how glossy/clean one of the mother's hair looked. She was simply dressed and had her hair in a pony but her hair looked so clean and shiny and it was a horribly humid day. I was so curious about it that I later found myself going down the hair gloss rabbit hole but ultimately I concluded, she was likely wealthy, had access to great products and despite the simple facade probably put much effort into looking "simple" as is often the case. Someone said Ina is heavy but looks wealthy....that makes sense right, because she is wealthy. That's her world. I'm uppermiddle, that's my world and I can't really fake it. I could try but I harbor no fantasies of passing and really why does that matter? There's so many other things to be rather than looking rich...like looking creative, smart, interesting, etc. Basically it takes a lot of work and I guess we all make our choices. |
I work in a field in DMV that attracts people who grew up with money. I grew up very middle class outside of ny but I worked my way up and have the education so I am now in these circles. I noticed a couple of my colleagues tended to refer clients to me from the ny area. At first I was a little offended like, oh so you send me the tough New Yorkers and New Jerseyans while you keep the upper crust group or send them to your rich colleagues. But you know what? Those are the best referrals for me because intuitively we get each other and they have been engaging, great clients. In other words, even though I have not lived outside of NY for 25 years, they are my people, culturally we get each other. And there's nothing like that special connection. Let's not idealize old money or the wealthy...they are one culture among many. It took me a long time to stop doing it, but now I get it. |
I see dyed blond hair. Classy. |
think you are overthinking this!!
but if these pics have one thing in common, it's simplicity. Not too much makeup, neat and tidy and no logos. Less is more. That would be a good start. |
+1 only one of the pictures looks clean and crisp to me. |
