Your analogy doesn't hold. You're not living a lifetime in Code Red air quality, but merely a couple of days here and there. It appears you've lost your ability to discern sense and apply concerns about excess rationally. Sorry not sorry if I'm annoying, but if you're annoyed, maybe reflect on what's causing you to feel that way, if you're so certain that you're right in your panic problems. |
New poster. Not an alarmist. Not panicking.
The air quality IS annoying. I DO smell it. It IS affecting me. It DOES suck. |
Posting on DCUM that the store put bacon on sale and everyone should be very afraid of buying it is panicking. Quietly avoiding it yourself is fine, but that’s not what PP’s did. |
In comparison to code purple or whatever it was that my family had to live in for months, I guess code orange does not seem that bad. |
+1 When can we begin to do something about global warming? Canada is tinder dry and part of that is that Canada is warmer than it used to be. I live in Minnesota and some of our north woods conifers are starting to die out because it’s too warm for them, too. |
They say this summer is going to be one of the worst on record for the northern hemisphere. More fires. More extreme heat waves. More climate refugees and increased costs. The new norm. It’s unreal. And people are still denying it. |
You don't seem very bright. |
My kids are in an outdoor camp that’s about to be canceled tomorrow, and for who knows how long over the next weeks. And I’m sure we won’t get a refund…
It does suck. It’s not long term dangerous to breathe smoke for a few weeks, but it is disruptive and costly. |
This is what I find absolutely amazing. After a few years of this, I'm sure they will still be denying and denying. |
You have it backwards. It’s not that keeping kids inside impacts climate change. It’s that the effects of climate change impact the kids’ ability to be outside. |
This is amazing. People on here are saying things like it's just a few days and no big deal. Let's see if they are saying that in August when we are still having these smoky days and when people's vacations are limited or ruined by this. Canada's economy is being ruined for sure. How many tourists are canceling? Sooner or later we will have climate refugees here. This is the canary in the coal mine and people refuse to see it. |
It's both a big deal and not a big deal. In the short term, it's not worth panicking over and hermetically sealing your house to avoid your kids getting cancer in 40 years. Long term, it is absolutely a canary in the coal mine and you will see increased cancer rates at a population level from repeated, ongoing exposures. Plus climate refugees, economic damage, etc. etc. You can both not panic now and still be aware of what the big picture is. |
I don't know who brought the words "panic" and "hysteria" into this thread, but those words are truly a disservice to everyone. Should people have some level of concern? Yes. Should people discuss this issue? Yes. Should we take prudent steps to keep ourselves healthy in both the short and long term? Yes. Should we take steps as a society to help mitigate global climate change? Yes. This is all no brainer stuff. If we just discuss the facts of the situation and not judge people's comments, we can discuss this civilly. It's the first step. |
Remember the summer days when it was SO hot and hazy that they declared the air quality to be code red. Isn't that the same as the code red for the AQI now?? We didn't wear masks before. Is it the same code red now?? |
If we have a code red day due to ozone, masks will not help. An N95 will not filter ozone. |
