I honestly think ozone is less harmful than 2.5pp -- these smoke bits lodge in your lungs forever and can trigger cancers. Ozone is broken down in the body after 10 minutes -- it can cause acute respiratory symptoms though. |
You should ask for a position with the EPA and correct their guidance. |
. I don’t think what pp said is wrong or inconsistent with EPA’s guidance— code red is when ordinary people should consider reducing outdoor time to avoid adverse effects. But the adverse effects from PM may be worse for ordinary people than from ozone. This is particularly true for say 2 hrs outside without exercising. |
The original question was why aren't we always told to wear a mask during code red days. Not is ozone or PM2.5 worse. |
Canadian here. Our economy is being ruined? Yes... but not "ruined" due to the wildfires. |
Not intending to be judgmental, but I still don't understand why Canada doesn't rake its forests. |
+1. If I knew all this was was 2-5 days of Code Red (or worse) air quality a summer every year from here on out, I'd be like, ok, fine, I can live with that. It sucks and hopefully I won't have something special fun planned on one of those days, but life will basically go on as before with some minor disruption. But if we're talking about 20, 30, 40+? days every year where air quality is Code Red+? That's devastating, and the possibility of that is what gets me really worried for both the short and long term. But I don't think anyone really knows how bad it will be, either decades into the future or even for this particular summer. |
LOL Nice |
Yes, we should rake, and clean, and do things. It would be a good job for low risk prisoners, right? ![]() |
That’s the point. And that’s what climate change deniers like to obscure - that we are very likely headed for entire summers being under the risk of the air being too dangerous for us to go outside. Whole weeks where it’s unhealthy for everyone to go outside. |
