Case in point, Ariel Winter.

Showing midriff or going without a bra doesn't bother me at all. But the butt cheeks showing are too far for me. Guess I'm old now.

This is what tween and teen girls were wearing in Bethesda. Their shorts weren't as tight, though, but buns were out. I wore micro minis in my day, but my @$$ was never exposed.

Bottom butt cheeks are the new under or side boob, I guess.

Yep. Old and judgmental.

Just wait until they sit on a moist metro seat. They will learn soon enough.

Your use of “jealous fat girls” and “size zero” revealed a great deal about your inner workings.

Yes, that I have no reason to be jealous and judgy about whatever is trendy for todays young ladies. If your were too day for cute clothes (let me guess, you never stepped foot in 579), it’s no wonder you might be jealous of todays thin young women. Leave them alone!

+1 This is a more compelling argument than it looks bad.

NP. Strange that you can’t see that, by attacking someone’s character based on their appearance (while not even knowing what they look like or what they wear), you are guilty of the behavior you say you are against. Are you more virtuous because you are a certain size?

Let me disabuse you of the notion that all these girls wearing butt cheeks shorts are thin.

Seriously, you could get an STD in these shorts.

I'm going to try and mind my own business when it comes to shorts that expose butt cheeks, but I would not let my teen daughter wear those out in public. I wouldn't let a teen son wear those out in public either. Those of you who think this is perfectly fine, you wouldn't let your teens out in public nude, would you? My point is that unless you are truly a nudist, you do have to draw the line somewhere!

Meh, NP here. Everyone judges to some extent (you just judged the PP). And I can live with being called old.

She's a beautiful girl. And she can wear whatever she wants. But, those shorts are not flattering and, plainly, ugly. In 20 years, she will absolutely CRINGE at having worn this at all, much less in public. I'd never say anything to her or about her to anyone. But this is anonymous. So there it is.

I guess I’m old and judgmental too, but it just looks bad. Nobody needs to have butt cheeks out. Leave it for the beach.

Yesterday I told a HS girl her butt did *not* look cute hanging out of her shorts.

I don't understand most of this as "shaming." All clothing is basically a reflection of social mores. (And certainly, denim booty shorts can't claim to be functional.) If the social more is that you cover your head, you cover your head. If the social more is that you cover parts of your body that your society deems sexual and private, then you cover those parts. I don't see anything misogynist about requiring girls (as well as boys) to wear clothes that entirely cover their asses. I think the feminist problem is more when girls are held to disparate standards or where a body part is considered "sexual" or inappropriate simply because it is a female body--e.g. never understood problem with strappy tanks, esp. in the summer, where it is really just arms and shoulders that are "exposed."

I did not (and I used to have a great body), and I regret it.

Stay classy, DCUM
