My Karen-Old-Lady take on short shorts

Anonymous
I strongly dislike teenagers younger than 18 wearing tiny short shorts that make it look like they are not wearing pants when their shirts are hiding their shorts.

It looks so tacky and unrefined. 16 year olds are not supposed to look like they’re almost naked!

My old lady take (as someone actually named Karen):

16 year olds should wear what they are comfortable in.

I do a double take when I see panty-shorts and a long shirt on anyone of any age, but I have a valid reason. When I was a teen there was a old pervert who flashed and chased me on a popular running trail. He was wearing a long shirt and nothing else. I escaped unscathed, but it was a formative experience and now it's just instinctive for me to do a quick check that there is indeed some type of butt covering when I see people dressed like that. Call me an old fuddy-duddy all you want but this kind of outfit is banned in my household.

I hate this but I’ll only say it on the anonymous internet. I hate it for anyone of any gender or any age. It also looks so wildly uncomfortable — like wearing denim underwear with the edges all shoved up into the your sensitive bendy parts.
I saw someone bending over outside their house the other day wearing what looked like a long sweater and a bathing suit underneath and thought it was a middle aged lady who threw something on after leaving the pool. She stood up and I realized it was my teenager’s good friend who was wearing short short denim cutoffs. It was both wildly unflattering and looked wildly uncomfortable. I feel like this is one of these things that the fashion powers that be foist on naive consumers every few years just so that they can sell more product.

It’s so tacky! Banned in mine too!

My teenager doesn't give a rat's patotootie what you think, other than that maybe your hating her clothing affirms her fondness for them even more.

At an elementary school event this week, some girls (I assume 5th graders) were wearing shorts where the pockets can be seen below the short line.

Who are their parents?? Why would you let your kid leave the house like that?

Ugh, leave girls alone, ffs.

Let them flaunt their body while they are in their prime.
I did not (and I used to have a great body), and I regret it.

I agree OP. It looks awful.
Anonymous
I think they look cute.

I don’t blame the children, I blame the parents.

I always think of the discomfort also. You have denim riding up your various cracks, causing both a wedgie and camel-toe. I don’t know how they stand it.

It's really no more uncomfortable than boxer briefs that happen to be made of denim. Context is everything. People wear this to the park or the pool, cool. Movies or restaurant, ok. Errands, weird. School pick up or doctor's office, gross.

+1. Check out the parents not just defending these awful “fashion” choices, but they’re proud of it! My parents would never have let my 14 yr old ass hang out in public like that, and I should thank them every day for that.
