I posted earlier in this thread (or maybe a different one) that knowing aliens are real doesn't actually affect my life at all. That's true. Also, if the govt has tech from some advanced species, obviously the learning curve is very steep because we aren't making fast progress and will all be dead before we're flying around in saucers.

That being said, this is one of my favorite paintings of what could have been a fight between aliens in the skies above a medieval city. I love how the painting has crashed flying saucers on fire lol (this is from 1561 AD)
