Holy crap. The CBS article in particular goes into a lot of detail. I’ve always thought the probability is that we aren’t alone. But I subscribe to Stephen Hawking’s view, which was that the distance any intelligent life forms would have to travel to reach us is so vast that in order to get here, they’d have to use technology that is massively more advanced than what we have. As such, we’d be at their mercy. So his view was that it’s foolish for us to advertise our existence because we’re basically extremely simple life forms. |

+1 Probably the best thing we have going for us is that our sun is one of about 400 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, and since it is so vast, visiting all of the different planets and systems requires traveling at relativistic speeds. So the probability that an advanced alien species might be flying by our planet right now is very low. |

That implies that they just kind of point and shoot themselves aimlessly. There have been several alleged UFO/alien encounters that are credible. It is well possible that “NHI” have been here and might even be here, cloaked or blending or whatever. |

I have no doubt that any alien species that could get to Earth would know exactly which planets had the potential for life. So they would know where they were going. I just don’t think that Earth would be more interesting than any other planet with life. (And there are probably a lot of them very far apart.) So they wouldn’t have any compelling reason to stick around or return again and again. |

It's important to remember that earlier civilizations have made claims about contact with alien life forms.
While humans think in terms of conquest and exploitation, that is our response. We don't know what we are dealing with, but it may not have hostile intent. It's possible UFOs have been seen before our modern era. Check out these medieval paintings that depict UFOs as we depict them today. I think it's important to consider the possibility that if indeed this is happening, there may be no need to consider them a threat to us. In fact, if we respond with aggression, they may respond in kind. Chances are, with their likely superior technology, they could probably annihilate us. So it behooves us to be prepared to view this from a peaceful perspective. Not a chance we'd be able to combat them, anyway. I remember an Unsolved Mysteries where someone suggested these are visitors from our future. That is another possibility. |

My assumption is that they would be explorers and anthropologists. The evolutionary process plays out differently on every planet with life, so the differences must be thrilling and astonishing to witness. |

It’s certainly possible that NHI has visited in the past, but I would be cautious about getting too excited about seeing “proof” in religious paintings. I’ve seen explanations from deep within old Christianity’s roots that perfectly explain things, and it’s stuff that only scholars would know when they looked at it. (Although some of the biblical and biblical-era accounts of what angels are alleged to have looked like sound awfully freaky). Now the fact that a former military pilot spoke on the Hill today, under oath, and said that he saw UAP every single day off the coast of the US while flying for the military? Now that I would take as something approaching proof. |

So if they were explorers/anthropologists, they’d come here repeatedly to see the progress. Or just stay here for long periods, like Jane Goodall staying in the jungle for months and years at a time. |

It’s implausible to me that beings could travel bazillions of miles and then basically crash zipping around the sky. I bet this is nothing.
