Is Hawaii "worth it" from the east coast?

I’ve been to Costa Rica twice and would never want to go back. I liked Hawaii much much more.

+1 Kauai itself is nothing like any other place (not beach necessarily and I have been to best beaches worldwide. )
The mountains / scenery are simply gorgeous.

Its worth it going there atleast once… from East coast.

Yessss….I live on the west coast and I’m in Europe now…11 hour flight, 8 hour time difference…it’s a big trip but you just have to suck up the jet lag.

Hawaii is my happy place. You need to stay a minimum of 10 days.

I would definitely bring teens to hawaii for a really memorable trip - specifically kauai although maui is great too. there is so much to do and it really is breathtakingly beautiful. I would say moreso than st. john and costa rica although those are lovely too.

We went to Hawaii a few years ago. The kids were about 6 and 7. Definitely do the direct flight unless you can find one with a short layover.

We did a Hawaiian cruise which I would NOT recommend. It was such a pain in the ass getting up super early every morning to catch a shuttle to the rental car place so that we could have a car for the day to travel around. Yes, you could just do the onboard excursions but they're SO expensive and you're limited to what they want to show you. We had our own ideas of what we wanted to see and the pace at which we wanted to move. I think the only excursion we paid for was the luau which was awesome.

The whole time we were there, we just kept saying how we want to come back and just chill in one location and use a rental car to drive elsewhere if there were other places we wanted to see. My brother in law rented a house on the north shore for a few days prior to the cruise. It was right there on the water. We could walk out the back door and snorkel and even saw a giant turtle come up on the sand to lay her eggs. My family rented a condo in Waikiki for the few days prior to the cruise. We drove out to various snorkeling places, walked to the beach, checked out Pearl Harbor, etc. It was awesome.

I have sailed around the BVI, been to Bahamas and Jamaica. Super super sketchy once you are but two feet outside your resort. Even at the resorts I always feel my stuff is at risk. Hawaii is not like this in most parts

I grew up going to Providenciales (Provo) as my parents and grandparents live there. Never felt unsafe. It’s not the lush tropical environment that Hawaii is so much different experience and aesthetic.

Can’t speak for the rest of Hawaii but no to the Big Island….not with it and way over rated in my opinion.

We went last December. Oahu. Absolutely amazing. DS keeps asking when can we go back. Beautiful, elegant shopping like rodeo drive but clean & friendly like Japan. Gorgeous beaches, tropical hikes. Snorkeling with fish & turtles. Delicious fresh food. It’s expensive, but so many places are. I can’t wait to return. A truly special place.

Does IAD have direct flights?? Was under the impression you always have a lauober in LAX or SFO, but haven’t checked in a while.

Stick to one island with a week. It’s too short to island hop. But a week is perfect for a single island!
