Tell me more about the School Board election process

Not all FCDC members are happy about KKG not getting censured. And Meren has a primary challenger, Paul Thomas.

This is a change from 2019 and I don’t want anyone to forget it. In 2019 they did not have the qualified voter caveat and Omeish got a ton of people who couldn’t vote in the regular election to vote for her in the FCDC sample ballot process. They did change their rules as a result but that doesn’t change the fact that largely based on their endorsement she won.

The caucus only form is not yet available. Will the FCDC again be charging me to vote? Note it costs $75 to join and $40 for a non voting membership. 2019 persons not eligible to vote could vote in the caucus and there were FCDC fees that could be waived or reduced.

Given the significance of the party endorsements these pay-to-play schemes operated by the local political parties are just disgraceful. All they care about is getting their farm team into some political office, regardless of whether the public would support those candidates in fair elections.

Thank you for this. I like that he was a teacher and his webpage says all the safe things, but I’d like to know more. My HM district vote is counting on a better representative than Meren.

Not a Hunter Mill voter, but, gee it would be great to see someone running for School Board who puts academics first. I don't see that on this website.

He'd be another rubber-stamp Democrat carrying water for the FCFT but he'd be better than Meren as he's been a classroom teacher. And it would be good to have a man on the School Board who actually has kids in the system, unlike Frisch.

No truer words have ever been typed.

So many of them have tried and failed (or are still trying) to use their school board experience to step over to another political position. I really hope that they have seen the writing on the wall and don’t look back:

Frisch: House of Delegates (lost in Nov)
Cohen: House of Delegates (seeking)
Pekarsky: Senate (seeking)

Others:
McLaughlin (Retiring with honors)
Corbett-Sanders (Retiring)
Tholen (not seeking re-election)

What do we know of the intentions of the other 6? All seeking re-election?

Laura Jane Cohen now has an opponent also seeking the Democratic endorsement for the House of Delegates seat she is seeking. https://www.henrithompson.com/

And he won't be weighted down by a terrible record as a School Board member like Cohen. Wonder if she'll suffer the same fate as Frisch, who thought he could waltz into the House and got rejected by the voters.

You love to see it when others realize what weak candidates these School Board members make when they seek other offices. They deserve to be forced out of their current seats, not elevated to higher office.

I wish I was in her district to vote against her.

Pekarsky’s trajectory of SB member for 3 years, HOA President and running for SENATE cracks me up, too. Go big or go home, I guess?

Will be voting against any school board nominee that promotes FCPS equity programs.

Well, that appears to be the platform of Mehren's opponent in Hunter Mill.

Does this mean that Frisch/Cohen/Pekarsky are not running for re-election to the SB?

Frisch lost in a special election for House or Senate in Richmod (I can't remember which.) I think he is running for reelection to SB.

Frisch is running again for SB. He tried to get elected to the House of Delegates in a special election held earlier this year after Mark Keam resigned his seat and lost the Democratic primary. So now he's crawling back asking for another SB term.

Cohen and Pekarsky are running for seats in the House of Delegates and Senate, respectively, this fall. Since they are running in the general election, not a special election, they can't run for two seats at once and will be off the School Board next year.

So Cohen, Pekarsky, McLaughlin, Tholen, Kaufax, and Corbett-Sanders are the ones not running for re-election? And Sizemore will be running for McLaughlin’s District seat as opposed to re-election at large, right?

You folks need a hobby. You're nastiness and gross obsession with the current SB is going to give you an aneurysm.
