Tell me more about the School Board election process

Two others who appear to be seeking at-large nominations are Lawrence Webb and Kyle McDaniel. Webb is a former School Board member from Falls Church City who was instrumental in the renaming of George Mason HS and Thomas Jefferson ES in Falls Church City. McDaniel ran as an independent and moderate alternative to Elizabeth Schultz and Laura Jane Cohen in the Springfield District in 2019 and came in third place.

When "George Mason" is an unacceptable name for a school, there is a problem. When renaming schools takes precedence over instruction and academic rigor, that is a problem.
It may be appropriate to change the name of schools, but it should not be top priority.

Just look at DOD and changing the names of so many military posts. And, yet a spy balloon criss crosses the US. But, pronouns are also a priority in the military these days.
Any wonder our school system is a mess, too.

I'll vote for McDaniel this time. Do you know if he's running as independent or R this time?

He is seeking the Democratic nomination.

Was Moon in the straw poll?

Yes, Moon was there and did well.

got this from twitter:
@Keys_Gamarra 62-Moon 48-Webb 29-
@AbrarOmeish 27-McDaniel 19-Lewis 5-Tenney 2

But, I'm sure Omeish will get her supporters out in force again. So, my guess: Keys-Gamarra; Moon; and Omeish will be your Dem endorsed At large

This was the straw poll for the Mount Vernon Democrats. It may not even representative of the FCDC. Usually these straw polls are pure pay to play events where you get a vote if you donate over a certain amount to the party.

Good they recognize Moon but mostly favor candidates known only for changing school names and nothing else.

So fcdc folks do are gamarra repeatedly uses a slur. Nice.

But if it's a choice between another right-wing Christian nationalist and a democrat, no matter how far left-leaning, I'm with the democrats.

And the continued school violence.

Sure, the party of "give everyone guns" won't contribute to school violence in any way!

Strawman argument. No candidate seeking the R endorsement even remotely advocates guns in classrooms. They do think that student safety is an issue, considering violence, trafficking, and drugs have increased.

FCDC folks have shown that there's a double standard. If Keys Gamarra uses a slur, they wait for a half-apology from KKG and then give her a pass. If it were a White politician, they'd demand his or her immediate resignation. She wasn't even censured.

There needs to be a big turnover on the School Board.

No truer words have ever been typed.

So many of them have tried and failed (or are still trying) to use their school board experience to step over to another political position. I really hope that they have seen the writing on the wall and don’t look back:

Frisch: House of Delegates (lost in Nov)
Cohen: House of Delegates (seeking)
Pekarsky: Senate (seeking)

Others:
McLaughlin (Retiring with honors)
Corbett-Sanders (Retiring)
Tholen (not seeking re-election)

What do we know of the intentions of the other 6? All seeking re-election?

Derenak Kaufax is retiring
Meren is seeking re-election
Sizemore Heizer is running for McLaughlin’s seat (Braddock), not at-large
Appears both Keys Gamarra and Omeish are running again
No idea about Anderson (Mason)

Thank you for filling in the gaps. I look forward to hearing about many prospective SB candidates in the coming months.

So for the PP, there are 4 who are not using the SB as a "step over to another political position".
