this is so nice! |
It isn’t, and anyway, we aren’t doing that here. |

Okay I have a buttered toast memory to share.
Growing up in an Indian city, I had grandparents who lived in the Indian countryside and had farmland. My grandmother's kitchen in the country had a giant old electric butter churn, and she would get the milk from buffaloes on the farm. She would make homemade butter and homemade ghee, and ship it to my parents' house in the city. This butter was pure white (buffalo butter tends to look like that, not yellowy) and very, very thick. Buffalo butter (and buffalo cream, and buffalo yogurt, and buffalo ghee...) is unbelievably delicious, and I would have it on toast in the morning before the school bus arrived. When I had friends over for sleepovers, we would always end up in the kitchen at 3 AM, eating buttered toast. My friends literally died over my grandmother's butter. I miss those days. I may try buying butter from a local farm in this area. |

This thread might be the first time I feel like I’ve found my people on DCUM. Good bread toasted with butter is truly divine. It is excellent on its own and also provides a perfect foundation to make a snack or meal to suit any taste.
Served with tea? Yes please! A thin swipe of Marmite (or, even better, Vegemite)? You’ve set me up for the day. Adding avocado to that? You’re letting me indulge my basic millennial self! For those who enjoy jam on buttered toast, I implore you all to seek out the Bonne Mamman advent calendar next holiday season. Twenty-four days of jams, spreads, and a honey or two! You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy it. You just need to want to celebrate delicious jammy buttered toast. |
Vicki? Is that you?

| I love this thread. It has inspired me to eat a second breakfast today of bakery sourdough with a pat of butter, warmed until soft but not drippy, spread on top. |
| We used to eat buttered toast with cinnamon/suagr heavily sprinkled on it for breakfast. Oh, to grow up in the 80s-90s! |
When I was a kid, my family once stayed in a hotel that had cinnamon toast on the menu: three pieces, cut on the diagonal. Every morning I ordered it. Every morning it defeated me. Maybe it's time to try again, only at a different restaurant: https://www.royalrestaurantva.com/breakfast-menu |
My mom in India still makes her butter and ghee by hand. Despite only living in big cities she has always managed to track down some small artisanal dairy farmer living on the outskirts of the city willing to supply her with fresh raw milk! That stuff is amazing - the cream on top of the milk is so thick you can balance a spoon on it. |

| It’s nice, no doubt. But to me buttered fresh baguette is where it’s at. |
Same, but only because the cold bread doesn’t melt the butter. I want it thick enough to leave teeth marks in the butter. |
Different but devoured with same glee: a big gulp size of super crushed icy cranberry juice and a turkey sandwich after a three day induction/labor. |
| I have eaten more buttered toast in the past 4 days than I have in the preceeding 4 months. Thank you, OP, for getting my life back in order again. |

Anyone try this whipped cinnamon honey? OMG, so good on toast. You inspired me OP.
