I'm 47 and make $70K FT. $100K total with my PT.
Yes, we exist. |
What do you do? How many years in that field? |
|
I'm 47, finished college in 1998. I started making 75K at age 33, which was 14 years ago.
I now make $200K, but it took a while to get there (FYI I have a master's degree, 2 kids, and I work full time from home). I was steadily getting decent raises then made a 20K jump when I switched jobs from 90K to 110K at age 38. Then steady raises, another big jump during COVID for a new job - 50K. |
This says a lot about how isolated your social circle is. |
100 percent of the adults in my household were not earning at least $75k a year by the time we were 30. |
|
I did not break 75k till I was 38. I just spent less.
I made a big salary 46-56 however. So I have done both. |
| OP's housecleaners, landscape workers, nannies, au pairs, children's teachers, and so forth all earned less than $75k at 30, and they all make less than that now. But OP doesn't "know" them, or care to. They're either brown, or poorly dressed, drive ugly cars, or live in zip codes too dreary for her to even imagine. |

Me. Public defender. Started at $47,500.
Now I'm a partner in a small firm. Our starting salary for first year attorneys is $80k, so barely makes your threshold. Today, my husband is an Associate Professor, full time, at a top 50 university (flagship state school)l and barely makes $100. He earns extra as a consultant/extra We are almost 50. We have everything we need and most of what we want in life. We feel fine. |
