And they are welcome to do so regardless of the calendar. There is no need for a system wide 2 week break.

Agree! The last thing they should do is throw working families under the bus so a few elites can have their fancy ski vacations in Europe.

DP but I don’t fully get this. The calendar is going to include 180 instructional days. Working families have to cover vacations and I get that it is a real challenge, but I don’t understand how putting the vacation here is more or less challenging?

Not pp, but it's easier to piece together camps and childcare over the summer than for random winter days.

You don’t celebrate Thanksgiving? This “religious holidays tit for tat” is absurd.

There is an entire summer where families can travel abroad. And I’d also argue a 10 day winter break is plenty of time to go to all but a few international destinations. And finally, are we prioritizing the extended international travel of one subset of the constituency over the difficulty low to moderate income families face in getting time off or arranging safe childcare coverage?

The extra days around those breaks are ridiculous. A week for Thanksgiving or 2 weeks for Christmas? Those days are better used in other places.

Totally agree

I just saw that Passover 2024 is about a month after Easter. It is usually the same week as Easter, but the lunar calendar doesn't cooperate in 2024.

I suggest writing into BOE.

Possibly 10 years ago, Passover was a month of so after Easter. There were no additional days off. But this was before BOE put in every religion's holiday into the schedule.

Every year, Orthodox Easter falls the week after Spring Break and thousands of Ethiopian students miss 2-3 days of school in observance.

Start participating in BOE meetings during open forum. How do you think everything else got added to the calendar? Go every meeting. Use the same language. "It's not fair that we are being discriminated against." Explain why Orthodox Easter is important. The BOE doesn't know and will claim that they are covering "all the important holidays".

Looks like there are some small changes in the 4 scenarios being presented to the full board tomorrow afternoon:

Thanks for posting!

I think they did a good job fine tuning the options. These are much better than their original ones. I have my preference but I’m curious to see what comes up in the discussion.

Where do you find these? Are they emailed? On the website?

The BOE meeting calendar has links to each meeting's agenda. Documents like this one are sometimes attached to the agendas.

Sticking with option D. Also known as basically the calendar we’ve been using.
