I'm sorry, OP, it's a tough situation. With the spring market coming up, consider selling and relocating somewhere more affordable? It can really reduce pressure and stress long term. |

OP, I just did a quick search, there are evening stocking jobs available at places like The Container Store, with benefits. Immediate start.
If DH has any experience bartending, pays more. If he can do handyman tasks or assemble IKEA furniture, he can do Task Rabbit when you are not at work. If you want to hang onto your home and have too much equity, you have to not just job hunt for a career job for him but shift to have one of you generating money whenever the other is not working. Uber or Lyft are options and can be a good way to meet people and generate leads/network. Extra income will buffer the stress and help financially. Do you still have the pet with the high vet bills? If so, might a family member take them? When I had dental needs and low income I went to a dental school for the work. Work around expenses and just focus as much as possible on getting more cash coming in, for now. It's a horrible and stressful situation. Research bankruptcy laws in your jurisdiction, someone has mentioned Ramsey who can be a good resource and figure out options. Do the kids qualify for any city/county childcare or preschool program? Especially the SN child may qualify for early intervention. If so, they could start in January and DH could even substitute teach, work for a temp agency, all sorts of daytime options. I think you need to think sideways rather than have life on hold until the "before" is reinstated. |
| Do you have a free bedroom or basement to rent out? |

OP, do either of you have a clearance for work? Be aware that a bankruptcy may make it hard for DH to find employment even w/o a clearance job. Even temp work runs a standard background check.
Is it possible to consolidate your debt with a home equity loan? Can you rent out a room or your basement to generate income? |
The score doesn't matter as the rules state you won't be given loans such as for homes , car and schools if you have had a bankruptcy in the last 10 years and if you stiff a creditor they can put that on your permanent record and ban you from future business indefinitely. |

As a person who filed for bankruptcy and recovered relatively fast, I will never understand the "get six jobs and sell breast milk for extra money" crowd. Just file. I also don't understand being embarrassed.
I'm not proud of the debt, but proud of the decision to get out of the debt and not let the stress kill me. |
Someone please explain, if President Trump is not too embarrassed to file for bankruptcy, why should the average Joe Shmoo be too embarrassed? |
OP's post is from over a year ago. Some new poster resurrected it instead of starting a new thread so you can stop dumping on OP, who is likely long gone because of people like you. |
As a person who has filed for bankruptcy, I can confirm that you have no clue what you are talking about. I had a home built four years after my bankruptcy was discharged with a conventional loan at a 3.5% interest rate. I could have gotten one in two years with an FHA. |
Thanks again, very encouraging. She does have counsel and I don’t think she wants to jettison him for a court appointed attorney. They are going to try and negotiate with the creditor. |
| Bk attorney here again, I hate when other attorneys give unsolicited advice, but I'll make an exception... the Bk code states that, if a creditor brings an adversarial proceeding in bad faith (without evidence of fraud), the creditor is liable for the debtor's attorney fees. So an aggressive debtor's attorney will often warn the creditor: stop your nonsense now, f*** around, find out. |
Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer. My husband had to do this decades ago. Business. |
