I really like Camilla

Didn’t that book feel a touch too sympathetic to the Windsors? I’ve already returned it to the library, so I can’t quote anything, but I got the feeling that it was very strongly pushing the narrative of relatable wives from healthy families v. pitiable wives from broken homes.

The book is clearly anti Diana, anti Meghan, pro-Camilla and pro Windsor and it STILL managed to make the royal family (and Camilla) seem like vapid, ugly trash. Which just shows you how ridiculously trashy they must be if a sympathetic portrait like that couldn’t make them palatable.

Hi rabid Megan-stan! Missed you after the other royal threads were terminated for the attacks against the Cambridge children. 😘

The Meghan haters are genuinely unhinged and delusional. Apparently anyone who doesn’t partake in their hatred and bullying of this woman is a “rabid Meghan-Stan.”

You should get actual therapy. You’re a young person wallowing in something that can’t be changed, while your father and his wife - who did nothing wrong - are thriving. That’s sad.

Camilla’s endured a lot, and if she made that joke? NBD. Let people twist it and get all hot and bothered! The first in what probably will be a series of books illustrating who Harry and Meghan really are will sell all the more, which can’t be what they want, but so little of what they do makes rational sense.

Camilla deserved to endure a lot for her part in ruining a marriage. I can only think people who defend and romanticize her and Charles’ behavior, while hating Harry and Meghan for being honest (and profiting from it), are out of touch, racist, old, or a combination of the above.

Sure thing. I think people who care about Camilla’s scarlet letter still are just lame. She’s where she wants to be, seems content, seems accepted by actual grownups in the UK, and is presumably happy to not deal with her idiot son-in-law and his new mommy wife. I can’t imagine what a relief it is to not have to interact with them.

Ugh you’re so trashy. Are you an other woman or something? “She seems content,” lol!

You’re utterly vile. DIANA was the other woman several times and stalked her lovers and their wives. She’s dead because she wanted to attention whore with a new, wealthy boyfriend who retained a drunk driver. She didn’t wear her seat belt. She was loving but courted drama. She was a naive girl in a marriage that would never have worked for her, but she didn’t mature, and she didn’t think about her own acts in light of that. It’s impossible to think she would have handled the inevitable negative coverage she’d have received as she aged well past 40 with anything like the toughness Camilla showed. You like pity parties and whiners - well, that’s what weak people like. Oh well!

DP. Toughness Camilla showed? Camilla is a loser. She got married to the person she actually wanted to be with and then when he tired of her she got to work on her back because she has no education (didn’t even take A levels) and no career. This view of her and Charles as star crossed lovers is really excellent PR. She didn’t wait for him because she didn’t want him. And she wasn’t his only woman on the side but just the last one standing. Never standing on your own two feet for the entirety of your life is the definition of weak. Swinging from man to man like a monkey grasping at branches is weak.

Diana wasn’t a saint but Charles was in his 30s when he got engaged to a 19 year old and then was like “omg so much drama!” Like duh you dummy you married a teenager. And yes Diana courted the press but the interest in Fayed was also about the Princess of Wales dating a non-white person.

Does the British royal family astroturf online forums like these? It's just so weird the amount of pro-royal family propaganda that exists online. I don't know a single person in real life who bootlicks as severely as some users on DCUM and in the Twittersphere et al do.

Camilla Parker Bowles allegedly joked if Meghan, Harry’s baby would have ‘ginger Afro hair’

Here’s the thing: the only reason this is considered racist is because we have internalized the idea that an “Afro” is bad hair, out of the bounds of polite society and almost a joke. If Camilla was black, no one would consider it odd for her to be musing about what features a biracial step- grandchild might inherit from their parents. Any discussion of possible African features would be considered racist because she is white. Lots of internalized hate (and not surprising given our nation’s history) triggered Meghan and she was outraged.

I’m black and this is patently false. There’s tons of discussion on the natural hair blogosphere about racist discussion on hair types (I.e. Afro hair and less kinky hair textures). There’s a LOT of discussion in general about colorism within the black community. So yes, depending on what Camilla said it would still very much be racist still even if she were black.

I’ve actually wondered the same thing because it always starts up all at once.

Meghan married a guy who dressed up like a Nazi for a party. Assume that was a joke too?

Lol…so one racist act from one person absolves Camilla of any future racism?

That's cute you are pretending that was Harry's only racist act.

It could be one or 100 and that still wouldn’t justify her in being a bigot or be a reason for you to weirdly be obsessed with minimizing her racism.

I just finished the book and found it remarkably balanced. All of the royals are portrayed as complex people who sometimes make stupid and self-serving mistakes but are generally well-meaning. Including Meghan. Including Camilla.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement they're both butt ugly

I always found it interesting how Charles wanted a married mother who is his own age, over his adoring beautiful much younger virginal princess bride.

Women can't understand how Charles was forced to marry Diana to have children?

The whole situation was very sad.
