And on Tuesday, according to NBC, the Leon County School Board approved a “LGBTQ Inclusive Guide,” which includes a clause that says parents must be informed if a student who is “open about their gender identity” is in their child’s gym class or with them on an overnight school trip. “Upon notification or determination of a student who is open about their gender identity, parents of the affected students will be notified of reasonable accommodation options available,” the guidelines state. “Parents or students who have concerns about rooming assignments for their student’s upcoming overnight event based on religious or privacy concerns may request an accommodation.”

They are essentially creating a “sex offender like” registry for openly gay students. If this is not vile and hateful, I don’t know what is.

But there’s more. LGBTQ teachers in Orange County, Fl cannot display photos in classrooms of their same sex spouses. They cannot talk about their same-sex partners. All rainbow articles of clothing are banned. Yeh sure go ahead and elect this fool. Can’t wait until someone exposes him for having had a gay experience in his lifetime. Just like Ivanka’s abortion in HS. It seems those that protest too much are still in the closet. They suffer from sinful desires. They fear gayness is contagious. Stupid little man.

We need a citation for all your claims. I am calling BS.
I am betting you are getting your information from some activist group posting false information.

I was right. Your claims are total BS.
When will you learn to research?

Actually reading this, those are all true! It's total doublespeak.

They are told not to talk about their same sex spouse, or to wear rainbow items.

I know my Florida teacher friends have emptied out their libraries.

No one should be talking about their spouse to begin with.
“I went with my family” is a proper response. JFC, just teach without agendas!

Since when?!

Wow! Mea culpa people. I always cite. I didn’t on this because teachers and parents demanded clarification and guidance from the state and school board. According to Orange County Classroom Teachers Association, “Teachers must have clear written direction from the District in light of hateful bills that are dangerous to children, families and communities and are driving even more teachers from the profession. Last week CTA learned from our members that OCPS held a meeting entitled "Camp Legal", which was prepared and presented by attorneys from their legal department. The apparent intent was to instruct administrators and managers on new legislation and certain legal issues. However, leaked discussions and directives raised red flags for teachers who contacted CTA to express concerns and ask questions.”

The lack of transparency led to Equality Florida, et al. v. DeSantis, et al. case (School Board is a named Defendant), the State filed its Motion to Dismiss
June 29, 2022- As part of that Motion to Dismiss, the State provided clarification and guidance on the meaning of HB 1557 Parental Rights in Education.

Here’s a more comprehensive link that gives voice to teachers and parents leading up to the states motion to dismiss. I’ll inject my opinion again. It’s ambiguous rhetoric. Instruction vs discussion. Sexual orientation vs gender identity. No one disputes inappropriate instruction or even discussion about sexuality in k-3 or even 4. No one disputes texts or books that are inappropriate for k-3. This is standard operating procedure in all early elementary grades in the US, public or private. The wheel wasn’t reinvented here. Regarding 4th and beyond remains to be seen. Many parents and teachers posed questions and concerns about what they were hearing because again, no clarification from the state in light of these alleged “new laws.” Teachers had every right to question interpretation. It’s not like LGBTQ is a new fad. Kids have same sex-parents and kids share whatever comes to mind. Teachers have been navigating this for a looong time. Anyway, have at it DeSantis fangirls.

It is past time to change the title of this thread.
It has been debunked by numerous groups now.

Fact check: Liberal website changes headline that falsely said DeSantis signed a bill that forces students to register their political views

The liberal website Salon has changed a headline that had falsely said a bill signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis forces Florida’s students and professors to register their political views with the state.

The 2021 law does require public colleges and universities in Florida to administer annual surveys on the subject of “intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity.” But contrary to the inaccurate initial Salon headline, the law does not require anybody to register their political views. Students and faculty members can decide whether to participate in the surveys, which are anonymous.

Salon published the headline in June 2021. Its revision on Wednesday, more than a year later, came after the article went viral among some Democrats on Twitter amid talk of a possible DeSantis run for president.

Before Salon’s revision, its false claim was promoted this week by various Democratic commentators, by Florida agriculture commissioner and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried (who subsequently deleted the tweet that linked to the Salon article), and even by renowned novelist Stephen King, who has more than 6.7 million Twitter followers and has been a harsh critic of DeSantis.

Salon executive editor Andrew O’Hehir said in a Thursday email that while another Salon editor had defended the initial headline back in 2021, the publication recently took another look and concluded that the headline “conveyed a misleading impression of what the Florida law actually said, and did not live up to our editorial standards.” Salon changed the headline from “DeSantis signs bill requiring Florida students, professors to register political views with state” to “DeSantis signs bill requiring survey of Florida students, professors on their political views.”
