NCS college admissions if kid is not a legacy, URM, or athletic recruit

Bated and Hamilton are in very frigid cold areas and Boston is a fun college town.

There's a poster who keeps asking how I know how I know that the senior girls have hooks. I have friends in the class and my daughter has also told me. The underclassmen girls know who is going where and why they're going there. When 4 girls got into Columbia ED, it was all the chatter but by the next afternoon when I drove 5 girls in a carpool.
The carpool girls were reporting to each other that 3/4 were legacy and 1/4 was a sports recruit. They know everything. It's just the crazy reality of 2022 with social media and kids who are WAY over invested in college from a young (9th or 10th grade) age. YES, it's NUTs. No, it's NOT HEALTHY.
But the reality it that no-one goes to college in a vacuum when the school has classes of only 70-80 kids and 95% of the class is on social media and all the underclassmen are social media "friends" with all the seniors. Everyone knows who goes where and generally
why they're going where they're going. I've also been at social two events over the past several weeks with school parents and heard about the senior placement at each of them. I'm not even super connected so I know there are kids and parents who know far more than I do.
Plus, the college counseling office is pretty transparent about who has been accepted without any hooks.

It's all pretty much public knowledge. You don't get one of the two Princeton admits (for example) from NCS without absolutely everyone in the class knowing exactly if you had a hook or not. There is ZERO way of keeping this on the down low.
I

Everyone that gets into an Ivy these days has some kind of a hook! That is the truth! It may not look like a hook to you but to the college admissions it is a hook so just stop. Btw are you a crew parent? Your language sounds very familiar.

I’m not surprised that you know all this but I’m surprised you’re posting all this to a public message board. There’s a difference between “public info” within the school community and announcing the same on DCUM. My Senior is at another private, and I would be angry and embarrassed if someone posted an analysis of our class, noting legacies, athletic recruits and URM for each kid. My teen is going to one of the lower-tiered colleges on their school’s list but loved it on the tour and it was their first choice. I know some girls at NCS and they are really happy about their planned schools, even if they don’t meet your standards.

I think it is a parent or student from another school. They can easily get this info and are trying to stir the pot. Otherwise it makes bo sense why would op be posting this? It is so obvious this is NOT an NCS parent. Don’t feed the troll.

Agree I think op is NOT an NCS parent. Their entire line of posts just trashes the school and all of the girls colleges. It makes no sense. I think op is a student or parent from another school.

So is OP a crew parent or a parent from another school?

Parents never want to believe that other parents at their school would behave this way. But they do. This is ypur school community in action.

Likely a parent who has no sense of reality about college acceptances these days. Oh well. No problem for us, but I feel bad for OPs daughter.

I don’t think it is an NCS parent. The same op started another thread a few weeks ago asking the same thing. Look it up- different thread. They are either a student or parent from other school. I can’t see any reason why they would post this about their school it does nothing but make their school look bad which would in turn hurt their future college prospects.

+2 My kids would never want to be in a remote town for 4 years. Boston or New Orleans are both dynamic, busy cities.

Where's the St. Albans equivalent for Instagram?

NP. Not at NCS, but a different private school. It hurts to read people on this thread trash the university that my DC will be attending as a “tier below” and a source of parental disappointment (BC, BU or Tulane). We are so excited and proud of our DC. DCUM is so harsh sometimes. These are actual people you are judging and discussing.

Ignore them! Those are all great and very coveted schools and seriously every single person i know that attended one those schools had a much happier fun college experience than my Ivy family members.

They’re top 40 schools but ncs is really competitive and rigorous and maybe that stress isn’t worth it.

Agree that’s my query

Where would you send your DC instead?

When we drive by, NCS seems like such a haven for intellectual and athletic girls.

Seems like it would be a privilege (in a good way) to be there.

And the girls leave prepared for college, I’m sure.

From the tone of your post, I’m gonna guess you wouldn’t be happy with DCPS. And MCPS high schools are huge.

I’m not sure any of the area schools, public or private, offers a cakewalk to a top X university. Honestly, if you moved out west, maybe it would be better?

YES!!
Let’s all encourage this awful woman to move out west

The best idea yet

Leave NCS if you think it is so dreadful and apply to Harvard from Nebraska

If awful is your gauge, NCS would lose a lot of parents.
