NCS college admissions if kid is not a legacy, URM, or athletic recruit

Schools which ZERO NCS are attending girls next year:

Duke
Hopkins
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Wash U
Rice
Notre Dame
Emory
Cal
UVA
USC
Tufts
Carnegie Mellon
MIT

You have the Ivies and Stanford (all girls are hooked but one Ivy and one Stanford) and then the U Chicago admits.
One to UCLA, one to Michigan

That's it for top 40 admits for the class.

I swear, I am not caught up in prestige but this is a bit extreme.

Your kid won’t get into any top colleges because the crazy radar is out on you with these posts! Troll post

I've been looking at the college admissions this year and it really seems like you have about 25 girls going ti top colleges and (outside of two girls) ALL are legacy, URM or crew athletes. Then the admissions seem to go off a cliff. thank goodness for u of Chicagj because that seems it be the solo outlier.
I am not looking for an IVY admit (at all) but I'm getting freaked out by the schools that girls outside of the above categories are attending. I won't name names but they're in instagram.

Tell it to my straight. A/a- student.
Did anyone apply their daughter from NCS this year? Where are we looking at?

You are completely insane. I don’t even think you are an NCS parent because if you were you would know that more than 25 girls are going to top schools. Troll post.

This! Most of the class is going to top 30 colleges yes it is true. Your info is wrong. Get a grip.

No, they're not. Look at the Instagram. 65 out of the class of 71 are posted.

The Ivies are all athletes/legacy/URM aside from ONE.
The other kids max out at Chicago (3 posted but there are 4 admits total)
None of the top 20 schools listed in the above posts are represented AT ALL.

Sure, I get that you don't want to hear this but these results are not great for the smart kids outside of the crew athletes and a few legacies.
You're either a parent with your head completely in the sand or you're a school administrator.
I don't see the point in lying about reality. It doesn't serve anyone at the school to deny this.
I'm a parent and I'm concerned because this is sobering.

Ask the majority of senior parents this year: they are not happy.

It takes more than straight A’s to stand out. That is on your daughter to stand out not solely on NCS. Why are you stalking private Instagrams of minor children? That is more concerning to me than college admissions.

That is surprising. What about Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, Pomona, Swarthmore and other top SLACs?

None to Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, or Swarthmore.

One to Pomona.

Do you know if they applied to any of these schools? Could they have been accepted, but not attending?

No, they are not. And if they are, they are legacy or athletes or URM.
Check the instagram.
I won't post it here but it is open to the public.

Same at STA, Maret, Sidwell and GDS and at top schools in NYC and LA. Admissions are tougher than ever. It takes more than great scores and grades. Blame it on the colleges and not on the schools. They can’t wave a magic wand. For instance Princeton takes the same type from a dc school w wry year - white, Republican, wealthy and clubby. That’s on Princeton not the school.

OP isn’t stalking private Instagrams. She looked at the public NCS 2022 destination page. I just did so as well, because I was surprised and skeptical when I first saw this thread. I am not affiliated with the school and have no knowledge of which kids may have hooks, but OP is not exaggerating much. There are a few impressive (to me, anyway) destinations she didn’t include in her list, among them Davidson, UCLA, UNC, UTAustin and Middlebury.

Middlebury and UNC are also athletic recruits (as pointed out in the public Instagram).

This is the thing that OP doesn't understand. Those athletes were outstanding at their sports AND had the same grades or better than OP's kid. You have to be more than a GPA chaser. Stop trashing the athletes. They are, quite simply, more impressive. The most disturbing thing about OP is that she seems to know the legacy status of these kids. How? And definitely looking dowon on POC at NCS. You sound like an ignorant racist OP.

A few Georgetown. Do you know how hard it is to get into Georgetown? I just want to hear from OP how she thinks she knows the legacy status of all these kids. Remember, she doesn't have a kid in this grade. OP, did you google them all?

OP here.

My original post said, "my kid is a top academic kid. Where can she expect to get in? It would appear that admissions this year (almost to a person) required a hook on top of good grades".

Nowhere did I say or imply that the athletes or URMs were not worthy of their spots. Stop suggesting otherwise.

My OP is a very reasonable post to ask for those of us (there are many of us) in the school without rowers, minority kids or legacy kids.
