Lol what? Doctor salaries are the highest in areas where there is there is a shortage of doctors—-in other words, podunk, Nebraska. I think your DS is going to be in for a surprise. |
That is unrepresentative of college student outcomes (like most comments on here). |
My DS will likely make $40-55k the first year after graduation. They’ll be okay. |
Liar, a pediatrician starting off in the DC area makes nowhere near 300k. Maybe after 10 years of practice, and by then, you’re old and way behind even an average IT worker in terms of wealth accumulation. The only pediatricians I know making 250-300k are in the podunk towns, so it’s not a bad path if you’re ok with living there. Is your DC too stupid to specialize? Even the bottom of the barrel are able to specialize nowadays. |
Well, I don't know about being light years ahead in intellect or "prestige," but yes, you're helping people directly. The world needs MDs and CS. |
You are a total idiot with zero knowledge about how healthcare works. |
I'm sorry that your spawn, who was cared by a pediatrician, was not capable to get into med school, but yes, doctors do start with high salaries. Most of my DC's class also comes from affluent families, as medicine is no longer the profession for MC due to cost, so being concerned about the financial health of a bunch of already well to do kids is absurd. My DC will be a radiologist and his fiancée is a pediatrician. We love her and we are so proud of her and she doesn't even have to work. Her dad owns a big cardiology practice in FL. |
No, we won't. Only the poors will strive for the highest salary possible, because they are hungry and have no inheritance. The boomers are leaving insane amounts of wealth to the next generation, so we will have even more people going into intellectual fields. Also, a lot of creative types make great money now. I posted before about my friend from ES in Europe who makes over 1MM selling art on Saatchi and running an architectural firm. She has long term contracts with the EU supervising restoration of historic buildings. My DC2 is at MIT in the art program and he will make decent money working for a big company based in LA. |
I just need to tell you that it is an extremely small number of artists who make that much money. I love artists and work with them. Most artists I know have day jobs to pay the rent. The art world is awash in money but it’s not necessarily living artists who are earning it. |
Nope. Rural medicine pays more. |

I took Latin in high school and enjoyed it, so I continued with it through my years at Harvard. Looking back, every kid I encountered in higher level Latin courses (except for me) was from what DCUM would consider an “elite” family. There was no expectation that among them that they would need to support themselves financially, and the attitude toward school and the point of learning was entirely different. They weren’t all bookworm types bound for academic careers. A few seemed to actually relish the exclusivity and “uselessness” of the concentration.
A wholly different mindset from the people I knew embarking on careers meant to ensure $$$, to be sure. |

This thread is typical DCUM incredibly bubble focused and not reflective of the real world at all
Typical DCUM kid from a high income/successful family you are set for life via family connections regardless of major or college Top 25 school attender you are set for life via alumni and school prestige regardless of major Those 2 criteria are most of DCUM folks Now, if you are a normal family attending a normal college the following things actually matter 1 What companies are within a 25-50 mile radius of the school, most national prestige companies won't be recruiting 2. What majors/fields of studies do these companies hire The main reason why there is a student loan debt crisis is because the vast majority of college attendees do not attend top 25 schools and major in things that companies are not looking for. These college graduates end up making salaries in the 30s/40s which frankly could be gotten without going to college for 4 years and racking up debt. |
| If anybody I knew growing up was majoring in English or History, it was with an education certification added on. They were onto something! |
Ha! Indeed.

If you can handle seeing very sick kids all the time and dealing with their annoying parents, plus insurance hassles, and having to report abuse to CPS. |
