It was every color political as soon as Duran immediately joined a lawsuit and put out a public statement on a Saturday re: masking mandates when Youngkin was elected. The great irony was that masks dropped very shortly thereafter--the kneejerk reaction had no basis in the reality of the climate of the time. It was purely political. Which was a dangerous move on Duran's part--he showed all of his cards, and demonstrated that he was very much inclined to act only on political instincts. |
+1000 Thank you for the dose of reason! |
If you don't understand the difference between politics and law, I don't know what to tell you. |
It ended up being 89 today, which looking at percentages alone is low, but the trend is similar to what happened that first week in Dec. With this info people can decide whether or not to make change to their practices. |
Sorry, the first week in Jan. |
What's hysterical is to call a successful lawsuit "political" |
Successful - it was a huge failure. A bipartisan legislature enshrining it into law. They may have won 1 hearing, but the forced child maskers quickly lost the war in an epic defeat. Now you all can use APS' tests and test yourself and your kids daily if you'd like. |

and you won what? The right to get Covid? Congratulations! |
Just noting that cases haven't really seemed to drop off from last week -- so far today we're at over 60, which is higher than where we were this time last week right after break. I do expect them to go back down within a week or two but do find it interesting that 22207 is getting the majority of the cases -- 95 compared with next highest zip of 31 cases in 22204. Not sure if this is lack of mask wearing in schools or fallout from Spring Break travel (folks coming back from break and infecting family members or others at their northern schools like Yorktown, Jamestown, and Discovery, which are the top 3 school vectors right now (beating out all the other high schools, even). |
Larger population of people with the financial wherewithal to travel, many to places like FL that also have no precautions in place, and who also have largely dropped masking. As a result, a highly contagious variant is spreading. This shouldn't be a huge surprise. |
22207 is where the COVID nuts live who test all the time. Home of the laptop class, 0 COVID, Eric Feigl-Ding worshippers. A friend from a North Arlington school's elementary school got invited to a birthday party where they required everyone to be vaccinated because their 3 year old couldn't get vaccinated. What anti-science non-sense for a vaccine with little effectiveness at preventing infection with kids, and 3 year olds have more protection than a vaccinated 40 year old. |
The Zero COVID people are on this board again. I guess they haven't gotten the message yet that everyone will get COVID. It's really sad at this point and I feel sorry for the mental stress their putting on their children, not letting them live a normal life. Smart Restart is wanting to implement all kinds of crazy 0 COVID protocols for prom, but say nothing about the bars in Arlington being jammed packed all weekend. |
Every time I see this thread I chuckle. I remember when people were in a panic and predicting armageddon because a handful of people in stores stopped wearing masks less than 60 days ago and still calling out people and stores were someone dared to go maskless. my how quickly things change.... |
Or out of the country, seems like most of the families we heard from in that area went international. |
