APS COVID Tests for Spring Break - What percentage do you estimate are going straight in the trash?

Anonymous
I'm betting that it's more than 80%. I've heard only 20% of kids are opted into surveillance testing (the most extreme of extreme parents).

This isn't living with the virus, this is extreme hypochondria. This is school closures by stealth, considering nowhere else in society tests random people like this, let alone the least at risk segment of the population. I can't imagine how many kids would be shut out of school every flu season for the past 20 years if we asymptomatically tested for flu (which is more deadly to healthy kids than COVID).

We got ours yesterday and it went straight into the circular file.

Wait...they gave you tests and you threw them in the trash? For why?

I am confused. I got the tests and thought it was great and added them to my stash that I use when we need to home test for one reason or another. Why would anyone throw them out? You're not obligated to do anything with them.

Save them for when you need them. I think sending them before break is the perfect time. People can use it for pre-travel testing or prior to returning to school

At least donate to someone who might want it.
Just like there are people still very panicked about Covid there are people who are addicted to complaining about every single thing APS does.

This is a strange take, OP. I am happy to be given free tests. So far I have used them when I have had cold symptoms. No one if forcing anyone to take a test, at home or at school.

+1

Why is OP hysterical over something useful?

I'm a HS teacher and all of the tests I was given to hand out to my 3rd period class this week were expired. I gave them out, but maybe APS is just giving crappy tests.

The actual expiration date is later. Don’t you follow the news?

APS admin here- they are actually good until July (the expiration date was extended).

They expire April 2022.

I'm PP and already used ours since we have colds. We got inconclusive results (no control line) from these tests from APS, then used a Binax and the test shows negative. I think they really are expired.

Wait APS handed out tests? My kids are in APS and we didn't get any!

There is no way I’m giving my kids a covid test after break unless they are symptomatic. One of my kids had covid a few weeks ago (no one else caught it), and our school did absolutely nothing to keep them from falling behind while they were out or to catch them up when they came back. Not even the teacher check-in they were supposed to get. Not setting any of the rest up for that.
