APS COVID Tests for Spring Break - What percentage do you estimate are going straight in the trash?

This was to be expected imho and the only thing to worry about is the parents who don't care and send their sick kids in to spread it around the whole class.

In 2 hours we're up from 20 cases to 45 today so far, and 30 yesterday, with another 30 or so staff over the last few days. Getting closer to January/February numbers. Cases at basically every school but compared to earlier in the pandemic, 22207 zip code is getting hit the hardest.

We kept the test and will use it if someone in the family gets symptoms. My preschooler has “test to stay” for exposure and we go through a lot of tests so I’m happy to take the free one.

Why throw out a test? Why not just put it in a drawer in case you need it?

What? Who hasn't been eating indoors since last summer? Great indication of the type of people who post on this board - the most extreme.

Meanwhile, we were showing our kids how no one enforces forced masking at airports - only when going through TSA or on the plane. Our plane erupted in cheers last night on the flight when it was announced this nonsense forced masking is done.

A plane is one of the most ventilated places on the planet. And Smart Restart is posting on Twitter that it's now not safe on planes, where people wore crappy cloth masks that were off half the flight. And they're begging for forced child masking to come back in school.

This board is definitely the most extreme people in Arlington, just like AEM. The regular parents are busy working, taking kids to sports and extracurrriculars, and living normal lives.

Not a smart restart person, but did you see the airline that had to shut down a bunch of its flights after dropping masks two weeks ago, because too many staff were sick and they couldn't staff the flights? I wouldn't be dropping my mask on a flight right now but you do you.

I believe in trying to get back to normal, but I'm not going to take outsize chances just to perform "normal" for the weirdos who need that. If people would just be smarter about things we really could get back to normal.

"Not a Smart Restart person...but I love to push a story spread by Eric Feigl-Ding" about 1 discount airline in Europe (vs. all the other airlines operating maskless ), and when you read the article, you find out they really had problems getting new employees onboarded (which was causing the cancellation problems).

This is the best ventilated place on the planet. If it's not safe to these people, nowhere is safe to them. But hey, they can use those soon-expiring APS tests.

It was Easy Jet, which is the Spirit Airlines of Europe. The CBS article above quotes...Eric Feigl-Ding too.

Loved to see all the people cheering in the clips online when the dropping of the anti-scientific forced masking was dropped.

Similar to the OP, our kids' tests went straight into the trash too. They should be handing them out at bars and restaurants, and stopping putting the COVID burden on kids.

Not sure what kool aid you guys are drinking, but it wasn't just one airline cancelling flights. British Airways cancelled, and it sounds like other airlines were cancelling larger than usual numbers of flights as well. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61007173

I don't believe in either extreme once it's just performative mask theater, whether you're performing in wearing them or performing in taking them off. If planes are so safe then why were so many people calling out sick and flights getting cancelled? I will keep a mask on for now until numbers come in with what's happening in the US now masks are dropping on flights.

Cases are up in the community, but we all know young flight attendants and the super athletic pilots don't do anything in the community when they're not working. They're literally working in the best filtered air on the planet, but it has nothing to do with community cases.

Just give them to someone else if you don't want them. This is not difficult.

"Super athletic pilots" ha ha ha, good one. Some folks are in an alternate reality for sure.

APS is now at 91 student cases over the last 2 days (30 yesterday and 61 today, so far).

This still isn't at post-December break numbers, where APS was reporting 200 kids out every day the week after break ended. But 100 kids out in 2 days is a big leap up from where we were a few weeks ago, when a few dozen in one day was a big deal.

We dont care. I just came back from visiting 4 countries during this spring break. Zero masks. I’m alive. Sue me.

One of you numerous Smart Restart people on this thread should call Ventilation Woman. She seems to be having an epic meltdown on AEM. I'm worried about her.

And now she is saying (via Smart Restart's Twitter account) to ignore your APS test, and go get a PCR test (the test subject to even higher false positives). Let's be honest though - no one is listening except the Smart Restart faithful.

How long does Arlington plan to continue with this hysteria? It is wildly exhausting. I'm sorry for the people who have such high levels of anxiety that they feel terrified to exist in society and want to push their anxiety on to others. It is truly incredible.

We got COVID in Jan 2022. After our too young to be vaxxed child brought it home from daycare. We had made it that whole time--diligently masking, getting vaxxed, etc. This is clinicals levels of anxiety that require professional help.

At this point, we have both natural and vaccination immunity. We are moving on. Unless a wild and dangerous new variant emerges, it is time to get back to business.

She's saying on AEM that she wishes that school had been virtual this week with mandatory PCR testing (she's not fine with the free antigen tests APS gave out).

If she thinks it's that dangerous and wants virtual, it's time for her to consider Virtual Virginia. Nothing will ever be good enough for her and her followers. If APS hadn't given out the tests, she'd be complaining about that. Now that they did, they're complaining that the testing is not mandatory (APS doesn't even have the authority to make it mandatory). Also, they're antigen, not PCR. She wants well-ventilated spaces before unmasking - but the best ventilated and HEPA filtered space in the world, an airplane, is not sufficient.

So see these tests as a way for APS to (a) offload their soon expiring tests and (b) fruitlessly try to appease these whiny people, who are significantly over-represented in the population of people who are active in APS school politics. (b) is impossible and hopefully APS has learned its lesson (many of them are AEM to see the car wreck).

I'm sorry for the people who have an irrational fear of a mask.

Sorry that reality, science and common sense is so triggering to you. Must be a jolt to you after your usual Fox News.

Yes, we have an incoming variant that doesn’t emerge. It gets emerged. If you have a brain you know what I mean. No wonder why despite returning to our lives the summit on May 22nd is about getting every living being jabbed with the experiment. Good luck y’all’s.

It's not hysteria to notice that numbers are going up again and adjust your safety behavior accordingly. I thought that was how we got to dropping mask mandates in the first place? Numbers go down, some people drop masks. Numbers go back up, some people put their masks back on. It shouldn't be political, or some big deal, but I guess it is.
