OP here - this is a good point. I think we'll probably mask him for boarding and then hope it's out of sight, out of mind. He'll definitely have the window seat.

So regulation that still is in effect doesn’t apply to your family? You must be superior.

This is the OP. He's been old enough for a mask for FOUR WEEKS. We're doing our best here, just like everyone else. Back off.

Your best is underhanded?

OP here. Right now? Yes.

Wow! Just WOW! Some people shouldn’t have children.

Yes. YOU. You clearly have no compassion.

Compassionate about what? That this woman chose a flight that she was aware of rules and her child’s issue with it? Feel sorry for her for not choosing some other mode of transportation? She is in control of the situation, she is putting herself in it. This is not a situation warranting compassion for her, you are an enabler. Only compassion should be for the passengers who have endure her or get sick from her selfishness. There are a lot of people in this world who need compassion (orphaned children, people who are ill, etc). This is not one of them.
I wasn’t careful with my phone and broke my screen, do you have compassion for me?

You aren’t ready to start traveling again. You’re going to see a lot worse on airplanes and in airports than just a 2 year old with their mask falling under their nose. LOL.

Right, because of low principled selfish people.

Or just be out in public in general. I do have compassion for you because you have clearly gone off the rails.

+1
I’ll reserve my compassion for the passengers who are trapped with her and her bad choices.

OP, out of curiosity, do you plan to wear a mask? Or are you anti-mask entirely? If the latter, are you vaccinated or part of the "who cares about the country while I'm inconvenienced" movement?

Herself or someone posing as her stated that she does not like govt rules (albeit for public health). Could easily assume that she is part of the “who cares about the country while I’m unconvinced.” She pretty much said it in her original post without saying it.

You mean those passengers who also chose to fly and will probably have their masks off to eat their pretzels and drink a ginger ale? You people have just lost your minds. Or you’re just trolls. Or both.

This has to be a troll. I can't believe someone is this far removed from reality.

Probably an unhinged “childfree” kid/parent hater. Maybe I’ll check Childfree Reddit in a few days and see a made up story on there about a 2 year old not wearing a mask on a plane.

People are so insane. OP bring the mask and do the best you can. This isn't a big deal and the most likely thing is that no one will say anything.

OP here!

The government rules poster(s) weren’t me. My husband and I will absolutely be masked with KN95 masks the entire flight and all throughout the airports. We always mask in indoor public spaces. We are both fully vaccinated and boosted. We will vaccinate our children (we also have an infant) the second they are eligible. This is our first flight since Dec 2019.

OP, I haven’t flown with my 2 year old but getting her to start wearing a mask at childcare was tough. She’s getting better now at 2.5 but I’m not sure she’d last the whole flight. I’d maybe start practicing now even at home with you and your DC wearing a mask.

That being said, I wouldn’t sweat it too much as long as you show you are making an honest effort. Your DC may surprise you and wear the mask for the whole time but like another poster said, have a plan A or B or C in case.

Also you say your child isn’t distracted for long by screens. Have you tried little baby bum or cocomelon? That stuff is like crack when my kids were two. It totally captivated them. Make sure you get ear phones for the flight.

Also when napping, children are not supposed to wear masks. That’s the guidance we’ve received from the Virginia department of health at our childcare center. They forbid centers from using masks during nap times.

Hey, echoing the sane here.
Supply lots of food. If child falls asleep, the likelihood of someone being on your case is that much smaller.
I've heard Southwest are particularly hard-assed, but this is hearsay.
We flew United to Hawaii (1 layover) last summer with a two year old and didn't have problems; out kids slept a lot of the way or were snacking or drinking.
