"Dnp"? |
| My husband coaches in FCYBL, this is his 3rd year. He always plays even tenth/11th guy a quarter minimum. I have no respect for coaches who can't get every kid on their team meaningful play time. A kid who isn't good enough to play shouldn't be on the team and a coach who can only win playing his starters is a sh!tty coach. Especially 5th graders.... |
| The Vienna coach had two kids who sat on the bench and didn't play in the game at all? Is that what you mean? |
DNp - did not play |
Different coaches has different philosophy. |
| I think the DNP happen more towards the end of a season to signal they will be replaced or at risk of being replaced. I have never seen a DNP situation for an entire season as that is truly awful for the player. |
Yes and there were 2-3 others who barely played. He didn’t use the bench in this game and the boys on it looked bored. The other team played everyone and the boys looked content. They also had two of the best guards in the league and didn’t play either too much more then the other guards. Different philosophies. |
Poor kids, that sucks. Not a coach I would want for my 4th/5th grader. Also would be really annoying as a parent to schlep all the way to Clifton and watch my kid not play for an hour. I bet his nephew played the whole game... |
99% of parents and players would prefer to play for pp’s DH then a coach who doesn’t play 10 year olds at all in a game. |
2 DNPs in a FCYBL game? Didn’t the coach pick the players? Unless it’s for some weird disciplinary reason, that’s a bad look. Feel bad for the kids if this is accurate. |
| According to their fcybl roster, they have 13 (!!) players. |
Nonsense. I have had three kids play in FCYBL for several different orgs. It is highly unusual not to give every kid a few minutes per game. And sitting out 3-4 9/10 year olds is just embarrassing for this coach. If he wasn’t going to play them, he shouldn’t have put them on the team. |
| When they played my son’s team there were several boys who didn’t play at all (non-tournament and they were ahead by quite a bit). |
That’s almost hostile, so disrespectful to kids and parents. The bench comes out when there’s a lead either side. My son was on a team with a coach who barely played the bench (him) so we walked, found a better older team that played my son more. |
