You seem to know nothing about speech development.

Do enlighten us.

Babies must SEE how your mouth moves in order to learn how to speak normally. Duh.

Children seem to do quite well in countries where hijabs are worn, there's no evidence of increased speech delay.

We have no data to support your assertion.

Don't you think if this was a problem it would be documented? You have no data to support YOUR assertion.

Hijabs don’t cover your face. The PP is just a moron.

+1. PP is an idiot.

But Burqas do! You could at least consider it. But you just want to stick to your narrative.

Women who wear burqas aren’t allowed to teach, fool. And the mother doesn’t wear it at home unless unrelated males are present. Further, how would we know if the children had speech delays?! You think they’re inviting us in to run studies?!!

+1. The PP is just embarrassing herself at this point.

My kid and others in her daycare class do have speech delays. Duh.

Do your part. Don’t be lazy.

The last thing DH and I are is lazy. We engage with our child every waking hour we are with her - talking, reading, singing, and playing. She clearly needed to see her 8.5 hour/five day a week teachers talk. Same with her classmates. To say this is the parents fault is stunningly ignorant.

Plus you have no clue how much better your child would be if she didn’t have masked teachers. Way to thwart her potential, PP.

You have no way of proving masks alone are causing your child’s delay, do you?

Funny how you assume it would be "us" to do the studies. Do you wear a mask at home with your child? No. Do some foreign children grow in an environment with face coverings, yes.

DP Yes, congratulations, you and other parents have children that are not vulnerable to speech delays.
That doesn't mean other children aren't being impacted by masking. Duh. It also doesn't mean your children's social development is not being impacted.

It’s not universal then. Why are you making it out to be? Drama llama.

Misrepresenting what people are saying and namecalling are the hallmarks of a person that has no actual counterargument.

You’re not presenting any sensible facts so what’s your point?

I made my point above, which is quite clear. You didn't like it, stated I said something I did not say, and then called me a stupid name. Are you having a bad day or something? Or are you a 10 year old posting on DCUM? What's wrong with you?

DP. Your point is that because it doesn’t effect 100% of children (I assume this was what you meant by universal), then we shouldn’t care? So, by that logic, why would we care about covid at all? Most people, kids especially, experience mild or no symptoms, and survive just fine.

DP. Nobody has proof either way that masks are or are not causing speech delays. There are compelling theories as to why masks could impede speech and social development, and also zero evidence that children wearing masks in a child care setting prevent the spread of Covid, given that they take off their masks for half the day. You seem aggressively against the idea that masks might be causing delays - why such a strong reaction to something you can't possible know, one way or the other?

Dp. I’m just curious, do you work for the “mask all 2 year olds” lobby? I don’t understand why you care so much to argue that it is impossible that masks in Daycare settings may lead to an uptick in speech delays.

YES. Her speech therapist said it was caused by masks in the infant room.

Totally support the effort to advocate for optional masking daycares. It's allowed in Northern Virginia; really not a crazy idea.

I could ask the same of you. My child has been going to daycare throughout the pandemic with masked caregivers. Her speech delay was due to receptive language issues and later a diagnosis of ASD. None of the numerous professionals we have been seeing have blamed masks and none of the almost 30 kids she has been with over 3 daycares have had any unusual delays. If the child is behind get them evaluated and get them the necessary supports instead of looking to cast blame.

My child is actually ahead verbally. She did previously have a delay that if I can attribute to anything it was being isolated at home while daycare was closed. Her language exploded when she started daycare with masked caregivers. So no, much as you would like, this is not about me. I can just recognize that masking young children may impact some children, whether it be their speech or social skills, and I have yet to see any information explaining how 2 year olds wearing masks for half the day prevents the transmission of Covid. So why are we doing it? Speech and social development in the early years is really important.

Wow you are really desperate for human interaction. You know, there are warm lines you can call if you need someone to talk to. It might be healthier than picking inane fights with random people online.
