Yep, the union is for teachers but you forget teachers are for students.

Better working conditions, pay for materials, aide support, etc. are all wants of teachers that benefit students. But continue your anti union spiel.

My husband is a special ed teacher. 20+ years. This is the first year he’s ever talked seriously about quitting. He’s never put in more hours or come home more stressed and wired. He loves this job, but everyone has their limits. I think a lot of teachers are getting there.

If you want to get your finger on the pulse of how bad things are… the chancellors thanksgiving email to DCPS contained a direct link to the national suicide prevention hotline.
I’m not saying this to disparage anyone or anything. Hell, I have mental health issues. I’m saying it as a pulse point of this is where we are, as a school district.

Not to mention that the entirely tone deaf email asked us to complete tasks such as shouting each other out on district wide boards, but it was sent at the end of the day, right before a break. Like cmon, put some thought into these things

The Chancellor's email also encouraged staff members to use their time off if they need mental health days.

If only my principal/high maintenance parents felt the same way. My principal has sent emails guilting staff members for taking leave. I'm afraid to ask as I'm sure my CSC will be lowered.

Just take a day if you need it. As someone who rarely misses school but is constantly covering for colleagues extending their vacations (Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Election Day, Veteran’s Day) I am going to start taking days when I need it because I am burned out with no planning periods.

Teacher turn over in DCPS is terribly high, and mostly a reflection of the leadership at each school.

This information is public but is not part of the schools public profile when it should be. It is a important metric on how well the school is run but principles like to say that teachers leave all the time. Well they do, but at some schools they leave a heck of a lot faster than others.

Ours told us to get a coffee and get to work. You can get a 4 on your CSC if you miss fewer than 5 days a year.

Teachers are for students until their interests diverge.

Parents are for teachers until the last day of teacher appreciation week. See how stupid a generalization like that sounds?

Are principals lowering CSC scores if you use days under what you get each year? How is that equitable or fair? I would file a grievance.

Concrete please, your veiled hate of teachers is not proof of diverging interests. And no, more pay does not count. Teachers are not martyrs and many people some of whom are paid 200k plus still want more pay.
