I honestly don't understand why people with media connections can be so stupid as to issue public statements like this. It seems like they ought to be savvy enough to want to make sure a story has been vouched first, but I guess the temptation to seek social media "likes" outweighs common sense.

Yep. They always want to be the first to pounce on a "story," especially if it embarrasses Republicans. How delicious that it completely backfired on everyone involved, including the idiot "reporters" who thought they had a gotcha moment. Little did they know...

+1. It was bad enough that he had to cancel the Alexandria “rally” this afternoon, with something like 20 people standing there in the rain waiting for him. Guessing that was the time he was pleading with his pals from the country club who head up the Lincoln Project to do ..,. Something- anything- to save him.
