VA Teachers: which gubernatorial candidate would be better for education (single policy opinion)

It’s one thing to reflexively support public schools, but I do wish both candidates would be questioned on how they would react if their kids were one of 30 students crammed into a trailer, or an advanced student in a differentiated classroom who spends the year in the corner doing math worksheets while the teacher helps other students, or the quiet girl who is seated next to boys with behavioral problems whom the school refuses to discipline. All of these things happened to my kid in FCPS long before COVID. McAuliffe’s kids went to private school, and I’m pretty sure none of them ever had to deal with any of this.

Such a perfect description my children’s experience in public. For me, though, I have had enough. Youngkin for me. I can’t really expect Terry to go hardline on guns since he is a gun owner. I think his Green Tech thing stinks to high heaven. So if I have to hold my nose to vote for him, I figure I will try something new.

Youngkin’s kids went to Georgetown Prep which is both exclusive and private.

It would be nice not to have billionaire candidates but I’m voting for the guy who didn’t have the Bin Laden family as a client on 9-11-01.

McAuliffe because he will be appointing a Chief Integration Officer and a commission to finally desegregate schools and finally close the achievement gaps. Accreditation will be tied to integration and there will be other incentives.

Everyone whining to the school board about their “neighborhood schools” can stick it.

Terry McAuliffe's kids went to the Potomac school and is also exclusive and private. Youngkin has one child at Georgetown Prep. At least one of the others went to St Albans. FYI

The Bin Laden family was an investor in Carlyle when Youngkin was not even co -President. That was not even until 2014.

There are so many shady deals that Terry McAuliffe has been involved in. Youngkin not even in the same category. I understand that you just want to vote for the Democrat which is fine but lets not cast stones.

Carlyle is better than Bain because Carlyle didn't kill Toys R Us.

That's still not a reason to vote for Youngkin.

I'm so tired of hearing Youngkin's smear ad on "I don't think parents should tell schools what to teach".

I wish I could find it, but I was on a website the other day that fact checked the various political ads out there and that one I remember as coming up FALSE.

Let’s cast stones

Youngkin supports privatized schools
Youngkin supports the big lie so when he does audit after audit of the elections whee is that money coming from. Taxpayers millions and millions and schools will lose out . Education will be destroyed in VA if he’s elected.
Prayer back in schools whose because the last time I checked we have no national religion and no state has one so which one should be used in home room?

Nope pretty accurate. Understand that you don't like it brought up. Just know who you are voting for. Fine if you still like Terry but don't try to make him out to be the perfect candidate.

Youngkin is a Trumphumper who wants to ban abortion.

Nope.

I know McAuliffe sent his kids to private school. But I'm curious about private equity titan Youngkin -- did he do the same? His children all look to be adults now.

I think this is germane because he's behaving like he's one of us with kids in public schools or those who teach in schools. I bet he actually has zero experience with public schools at all.

It's really funny how they think McAuliffe made a gaffe with his comment that parents shouldn't tell schools what to teach, though. What a miscalculation.

One of McAuliffe’s kids went to Langley. Youngkin sent his to Georgetown Prep.

Well, there's that, too. Yes, it was taken out of context. Of course everything Republicans do is in bad faith.
