I was an even worse working mom. I’m beginning to think I am just a bad mom. |
Aww, hugs. The mom-gig is just hard, especially in our modern era, and even moreso in the middle of a global pandemic! How old are your kids? |
It was far harder 100+ years ago. |
You're not a terrible Mom OP. This is just a very difficult time for everyone.
Give yourself credit for the things you do well and hope for better days ahead. |
Lol, it absolutely was not. My grandpa and great uncles were actually a net benefit to my great grandma as they could help on the farm or later, work in the family store. If they weren’t in school or contributing to the family business, they could disappear to any old place. Maw maws life was hard for many other reasons but her “mom gig” was not the main reason. |
Some people aren't really cut out for certain age groups. Keep them alive, love them, and there's a good chance that you'll enjoy them a lot more once they get older. I know a lot of people who felt that way and really value their relationships with their adult children (who seem no worse for the wear). |
Agreed! Life was hard. Being a mom just sort of happened without the volumes of expectations and self-reflection expected from us today. |
Oh yeah living with the inescapable and incurable diseases like polio which paralyzed 1 in every 1,000 kids and crippled many more was a walk in the park. As was feeding your kids without social nets like supplement assistance, unemployment, paid time office, and sick leave. Health insurance also didn't exist. Your kid broke their arm? Uncle Jimmy will snap it back in place if you don't have $50 cash to pay the doctor every time. |
If you were a bad mom than you wouldn't recognize your flaws! I'm sure you are good enough which is all we can ask for. Our parents weren't perfect, our children aren't perfect and neither are we! Give you kids more hugs and accept your strengths and weaknesses! |

Many kids didn't make it through childhood. There weren't any easy gadgets for food - ovens, microwaves, washer/dryer or electricity. Many couldn't read or had to homeschool their kids. Anyone who thinks its easier back then isn't thinking it through. And, if you cannot handle having kids, please don't have anymore. |

I hope you never, ever complain about anything ever. Just go through life with a giant smile plastered on your face because you have it so much better than your grandmother. Is that accurate? |
I have started putting earbuds in and playing classical music during the day. The kids seem so much less stressful when I can’t hear every annoying argument or whining. |
Maybe you are a terrible mother. How can you improve and what do you need to change? I’m sure you love your kids and work to keep them safe so what can you do to remove the “terrible” from your self-definition? |
