The months-long wait for the drivers license road test is unacceptable

Anonymous
Am I the only one who thinks that the government simply needs to do something about this? Even if paying for a third-party road test, there is still a 3-4 months long wait to take the road test. Is nobody at the DMV creative enough to solve this problem. My DS will need his license to get to school and his job beginning early Sept and there is literally nothing to be done about the fact that the earliest he can get in, and that's if he pays $80, is Sept. 15. The DC government is a complete joke at this point.

There’s this thing called the pandemic going on right now.
People have lost their livelihoods.
People have lost their lives.
Local governments are operating at reduced capacity with limited services.

Stop whining.

Um, my license expired in March- and I cannot get an appointment until Nov to renew. DC has extended its state of emergency until October. We’re all in the same boat, OP.

But it remains valid until 45 days after the public health emergency concludes, so you’re fine. Being unable to get a license is different.

Call or contact Mary Cheh's office and complain. I agree, OP, this is ridiculous. They need to start putting pressure on these municipal offices to open more staffing.

I’ve heard of 6 month waits in some states pre-pandemic.

Yes, as we're reminded hundreds of times a day.

At some point, that ceases to be an excuse.

I agree with OP. A few too many government workers enjoying leave a little too much.

Have you tried contacting the manager of coronavirus?

Seriously, OP, I get what you are saying, but how long have you lived in this country? Public education is disastrously underfunded. Even with health insurance that makes them unable to pay other bills, people wait months for specialists appointments needed to save their lives. And forget about mental health. And these were all shot to hell before a pandemic that has been actively mismanaged by our federal government (you don't vote Republican, right?)

Your DS being unable to legally drive himself for 2 weeks in September doesn't even come close to the radar of "things the government simply must do something about."

He’ll just have to figure out how to get there without a car. Lots of people do it. It will be a growth experience.

DC DMV emailed out a letter you can print and keep on you in case you get pulled over in another state and need to prove that DC extended all licenses. May be able to find it on DMV website.

NP, also with personal driver license issues, and as a matter of fact, I would give anything to have a vote for a Republican in DC mean something. We might finally get a little common sense management of the city.

Why should he have to? Guessing OP pays big dollars in property taxes. THIS is the level of service that we are currently getting from local government. I cannot believe how some of you shrug your shoulders and think it should be NBD.

I think public health comes before the privilege of a drivers license, don’t you agree?

Are you saying that if the OP pays a lot in taxes they should get more than people who pay less? Perhaps we could have a separate line at the DMV for rich folks.

If he’s a smart kid who isn’t too spoiled, he’ll figure it out. Have faith.

I can't believe how many of you just accept that corruptiomn and laziness that is the DC government. This pandemic is a dream come true for so many. There is no excuse for such ineptitude in our local government. There is no reason its citizens should be prohibited the right to drive because they can't get their sh*t together. We have opened back up. DMV is open, get their butts back to work!
