So where are you looking for a governess for the fall?

I can’t deal with the uncertainty and even though it will be a huge financial hit, long term it’s clearly better than quitting my job. If you’re in the same boat as me (very very lucky, I know) where are you looking to find someone to school your children?

I'm waiting until school announcement is final to pull the trigger on a governess.

However, I don't have high hopes that we'll find someone who has a suitable educational backyard AND is fluent/native speaker in child's immersion language AND who we can afford.

Oh, and I plan on getting on the horn on neighborhood listserv and Nextdoor whenever we know what's happening.

I’m a teacher and looking to take on a small group of kids daily (virtually). Quit teaching for this year. Is this something parents would be interested in?

Nope, I'd be interested in an in-person small group, but if it's virtual I still have to figure out childcare.

I wonder if there are college students that will be taking a year off f their campuses are closed that might be willing to do this.

Another "no". We looked into a tutoring company but dropped out of communication as soon as we found out it would be virtual. I want my kid to be with 2 other classmates and be taught in person (at least a few hours per week) by a real teacher. I don't need it for childcare, (DH works from home and I will start the year teaching virtually), but the other families do need the childcare. I wish I could take the year off to do this myself, but we need my paycheck.

I don't think we use the word "governess" anymore, OP. It's a bit sexist and dated. "Tutor" is more modern and gender neutral.

Not OP, but I think it was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek.

I'm just going to leave the nursery window open until the east wind blows her in.

Maybe, but you never know on DCUM! Some people here seem to have delusions of grandeur.

I intend to hire a governess for my children this fall. My only concern is that I might fall in love with her, and then when she realizes I'm keeping my mad wife locked in the attic, flee and leave me heartbroken. But I'm confident things will work out for us in the end.

Just don't pick an ugly orphan and you'll be fine.
