| Was so interested to get this email today! I know very little about Wilson beyond his presidency and the League of Nations but trust Princeton. They have excellent historians. The email and previous statements have said Wilson was exceptionally racist, even for his time and place, and segregated the formerly desegregated civil service. I support the change. |

I despise Trump and think he’s one of the worst presidents ever, but if he signs an executive order putting an end to this stupid renaming and tearing down shit, I’d be for it.

The man was a virulent racist. It's one thing if Wilson had been just a casual racist common of his time, like FDR had been, but he was not and he was indeed virulent. It's no secret. So I'm not surprised.

I don't think Trump has any authority over the name of a private university's facilities. He can guard Andrew Jackson's statue on federal property all he wants. The university did an extensive review of Wilson's record in 2015 in deciding then to reduce the number of references to Wilson on campus, but not rename the SIPA or the residential college. Much has changed over five years. The turning point likely was the delivery of a letter to the Board of Trustees this month in which about 2/3 of the current graduate and undergraduate students at Woody Woo demanded the name change. They acted within a week of that letter. |

Not surprising post on a forum in a place where the NFL team is still called the Redskins in this day and age. But an executive order has nothing to do with what a private University chooses as names for it's schools and buildings. |
