Northam announced this afternoon that northern Virginia will enter Phase 2 on Friday, June 12th. It seems clear that some form of soccer practice is allowed in Phase 2. My guess is we may enter Phase 3 by August. What is your understanding of what youth soccer activities will be allowed in Phase 3 in Virginia?
I would request the courtesy of limiting the "no soccer till 2021", "youth soccer is non-essential", "you are a delusional soccer parent" etc posts. You have made your viewpoint clear. |
If all goes well and we get to phase 3, I would expect there would be club games and high school sports. But that may vary by state. Virginia seems ahead of Maryland at this point. |
|
Phase three was supposed to be basically back to normal with some mask wearing and hand sanitizer.
|
| Apparently amusement and water parks can open up in phase 3 so I would think regular soccer is on too. |
| Maryland with the exception of Moco and PG has been moving forward reasonably Maryland key metrics dropping significantly. My guess is that Hogan will push to get to next phase relatively soon - but will do it in mini steps like they did from phase 1 to phase 3 . Getting there quicker is critical for schools to start. But what Moco does will be very slow. |

BRYC is following ECNL's return to play protocol. They expect to get permits back this week and plan to start small group non-contact training next week.
https://www.eliteclubsnationalleague.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/ECNL-x-Return-to-Play-Recs.-V5-Doc.pdf Jeff Cup has scheduled its make-up dates for mid-August with the expectation that full competition will be permitted then. Here is PWSI's return to play plan: https://cdn4.sportngin.com/attachments/document/84c6-2176876/PWSI_RTP_COVID-19.pdf#_ga=2.54095915.2079641559.1591806217-1680516024.1591806217 |
Thanks this is some good information. The PWSI plan is good - hope the Virginia guidelines align with it. I have not been able to find what the Forward Virginia Phase 3 guidelines actually are - it seems like the state is determining the Phase guidelines as they go along. My guess is tournaments probably won't happen this year. An in between approach could be local head to head games allowed without tournaments. |
| Great to see Cullina setting guidelines. Will VDA and VSA being using the same guidelines? |
|
Our club director said tonight that they expected phase 3 to start the weekend before July 4 if everything progresses.
Practices starting next week but limited to social distancing and not much interaction. |
| Did he hear that from state or county officials or is he just randomly guessing? |
| I read both ECNL and PWSI, guidelines. Not much of a difference, but curious to how a club goes outside the box and sets up their own strategy? Smart of BRYC to say they are following ECNL guidelines. Anything happens, ECNL is held responsible. Anything happens at PWSI, their club will be held responsible. |
| My guess is PWSI's plan was coordinated with VYSA. It is exactly the same as several other clubs' plans. |
PWSI is a part of ECNL Regional League and my guess is they have to follow ECNL guidelines too. My guess is that is why the BRYC and PWSI guidelines look so similar. |
Guessing it was from officials. Specific wording was ... "we are being told" or "we are hearing." Definitely something like that. He wasn't saying hoping or expects off his own supposition. |
NP here. A neighbor who is involved in running a small local sports league (not soccer, but an outdoor sport that uses similar fields and facilities) mentioned that Arlington officials had told her that fields would likely be available for permitted use sometime in early July. This was a week or so ago. |
