FYI if you are looking to be recruited there for golf, skiing, squash, equestrian, or men’s track, field, or cross-country.

Sort of surprised about golf and men’s track/cross country.

Cross Country is like the cheapest sport. Shame to cut it.

The decision to cut men's track is the head-scratcher. It's not expensive - especially when you're keeping women's track and so have to maintain all the facilities - and the team's members come from a diverse range of backgrounds.

They did have too many varsity teams though - like 4th most of any college in the country. The Athletics Department has been an afterthought for years, and it shows in their teams' dismal winning percentages (and attendance)

Skiing? Where can you ski in RI?

If he were in the high school class of 2021, Daveed Diggs probably wouldn't have gone to Brown. He was a runner at Brown before he was a Tony winning rapper and actor on Broadway. (His commencement address talking about how his pre-Hamilton life compared with his poat-Hamilton life is very interesting.)

It might be to keep their numbers Title IX compliant.

Fewer slots for athletes! Excellent

I'm a big fan of sports but getting rid of these nichey, country-club sports that no one cares about is absolutely the right move. Why the heck did Brown have an equestrian varsity team in the first place? But even though it cut 11 varsity sports, it added 2 sailing varsity teams so dumbness offsets some wise moves.

I agree. That’s a shame.

Cross country maybe, Track (especially sprints) is not country club. The rest are.

Brown has been the doormat in the Ivy League when it came to athletics over the last decade. Only Columbia has a worse overall record, but Columbia has done OK in recent years.

Perhaps Brown should just narrow it down to sailing and Ultimate Frisbee.

They are not money makers.
