| This burns me so much. It's a camp at a nursery school. The school year is on one contract and then camp is by session under a different agreement. Due to the school year contract we've already paid for a lot of care/instruction that we didn't get. Now they say they are keeping our camp deposits but not offering camp. There's a $250 non-refundable deposit and while literally I understand those words you don't think about camp being canceled as the reason to keep the money. It's there so you don't change your summer plans on a whim and mess up their schedule. And please don't say anything about paying teachers--most of the school year teachers do not work the camp. |
| This must be disputed. Completely unacceptable! These businesses regularly operate under the assumption that you may decide to take your promised tuition and run, but where is the protection for the clients who have had their money taken without service provided? |
| Calleva is doing that - keeping $75 of the deposit or you can let them keep $150 as a credit for next year. |
That’s different. If Calleva cancels, the deposit turns into a credit. OP is saying that the deposit is just lost even though it is the camp that is closed. That’s infuriating, OP. |
If you want them to change their tune, name them here. |
| It is a non refundable deposit. They don’t have to. |
But they should. |
Why ??! The circumstances are bad I get it but technically they’re not at fault. |
| Please name them. |
| It's Clara Barton in Cabin John. |
Right -- they aren't closing because they just didn't feel like running a camp this year, or because the head of the camp got arrested for tax fraud, or they failed to take basic precautions and got shut down by the health inspector or something. They can't open safely in a pandemic. I suspect they already had some fixed expenses that they need to pay. Now, whether it's a smart business decision depends. If they could roll the deposits over to next year, for example, I would say they should do that. Or if they could refund the fees and stay in business. But it's possible that they can't do that. |
No they shouldn't. That's ridiculous. It is nonrefundable for a reason. |
Yelp them |
Sure! As anyone is going to care about your yelp in this situation! |
| You are suggesting defaming the camp on the Internet because you paid a nonrefundable deposit and are surprised that it is not being refunded. Go figure, I would have thought people in this area were smarter than that. |
