Franklin Montessori Darnestown Rd, MD closed for 3 months, no proactive tuition adjustments.

School will be closed through June. One of the letters sent to parents stated "For families that are experiencing financial hardship, we have received your requests. We have made adjustments to
your accounts while we wait for clarity on what longer term help is available and what additional support we can offer.
They are applying for SBA Relief Aid as well. Just wondering why this school is not proactive about refunding all the families for services not provided. I understand schools are closed but Montessori school isn't cheap. Many of the families agree that tuition reimbursement is the right thing to do. Installment payments go out two months in advance, so we have all already paid through at least the month of May. Some families may have even paid for the entire year up front. Thus, March and April were already paid for in full months ago, therefore the amounts paid toward closed days in March and April should be refunded. Other child care centers and Montessori schools in the area, including the Goddard School, Kiddie Academy, Primary Montessori and Georgetown Hill, have already done so proactively. They have stopped charging families for closed days and/or are reimbursing tuition already paid for closed days. They have offered the option for families to withdraw without implementing the usual required notice time (30 or 60 days, depending on locations) and they are waiving withdrawal fees. Since most tuition plans are charged two months or more in advance, in the case of withdrawal, families are refunded the unused days they have paid for. For places that remain open, or that plan to reopen soon, they are offering 50% off tuition for families who do not feel safe bringing their children back. Seems ridiculous and wrong to keep our tuition money for 3 months, while schools are closed.

Georgetown hill isn’t reimbursing. They are offering tuition 50% discount for April or full price with discount for next school year, $500 for May...not sure future plans. Reasonable response. Georgetown also is only monthly billing and not up front. This was one of the reasons we chose it over Franklin - we couldn’t pay up front.

Goddard Gaithersburg is letting people pay nothing and keep their spot for May. To get distancing learning, you have to pay $500 (some distancing learning) or $1,000 (all of it). If you pay full tuition, you get some discounts down the road.

Essential workers send their kids in for free, per MD executive order.

+1. In one of their emails, they mentioned making up days for but I highly doubt they are going to do that.

Franklin is a for profit school. I’m sure the owner is just protecting her bottom line.

Lock that Franklin owner up!

Have you given notice? I would immediately. What happens if you stop payment on your monthly tuition payment? So what if they sue you, pay the tuition or lawyer up. Everyone on these threads seems so helpless. If you don't want to pay for daycare you are not receiving then un-enroll your child and stop paying.

Think the Montessori’s are 60 day notice. Why is everybody scared? Lol. Grow some balls and don’t pay

Unenroll for the rest of this school year. Have you enrolled yet for the fall?

The catch is, in January we prepaid through June. They essentially have pocketed that money. Newest letter sent to us has a “sorry this frustrates us just as much as it frustrates you but thanks for love and support “ B.S. feel.
