Eating junk food very occasionally while pregnant?

Anonymous
I'm 8 months. Have been eating really healthy so far following the GW midwives guidelines- lots of organic kale and all! Lockdown is really getting me down. I have the strongest cravings for chips or those flavored Snyders pretzel bits which I know are total trash. Would it be terrible if I ate a big bowl of chips and pretzels and then went back to being healthy? How much of an impact do you think this would have on the fetus?

Omg. Just eat a damn bowl of chips. I really hope this isn’t a serious question....

You do realize there are pregnant women who live off junk food their whole pregnancy, right? I promise you eating some junk food isn’t going to make your child have a career working at McDonald’s. Jeez..

This is not a real post. No one would wonder how pretzels impact a fetus.

Yes, TERRIBLE. Eating pretzels will ensure your baby is born with a tail.

My two kids are ok BUT they do like pretzels and chips. So watch out. I probably screwed 'em up in utero.

Oh my god, woman. My friend got a happy meal and ate it on her drive home from work EVERY WEEKDAY while she was pregnant. EVERY. WEEKDAY. Like 45 minutes before dinner.

Her son is a happy, healthy,, college sophomore.

I like to dip pretzels in chocolate ice cream.

I ate pretty horribly both of my pregnancies. Both kids fine.

I haven’t eaten a vegetable in weeks. This kid will be fine.

The midwives diet is insane and it exacerbated my eating issues (I had an eating disorder at a younger age) in my first pregnancy. It’s orthorexic and excessive, and following it doesn’t guarantee you will avoid complications in birth. It’s also quite classist and ignores the reality of poor women who live in food deserts, lack access to fresh produce, and can’t afford organic salmon and kale. It also isn’t respective of cultural dietary differences - like, would they tell Ethiopian women not to eat injera? Or Japanese women they can’t eat rice? Or Orthodox Jewish women they can’t have challah or matzoh? Eat what you want in moderation. And frankly, a much healthier approach to eating is called Intuitive Eating (Evelyn Tribole has a great book on this) and it won’t cause you to feel any shame for eating a bowl of pretzels. Because you absolutely should not ever feel that.

I ate McDonald’s almost daily with my first. Had an easy uncomplicated birth at almost 41 weeks.

I didn't even read the guidelines and I had a fine birth. Just live your life OP. I'm going to guess this is your first.

Your lack of common sense is going to be much more harmful to your baby than if you ate chips for every meal.

Idiots shouldn’t procreate.
