Remember OP, every chip you eat reduces your baby’s IQ by one point...

I honestly can’t tell if this is real or sarcasm. Either way, it’s in poor taste.

It's a true story. I'm not sure how explaining what happened to somebody is in poor taste. It's a real data point.

Omg. I guess you are too stupid to understand that one anecdote does not equal data. FFS how are people this stupid real?

What is this entire thread or forum but a collection of personal anecdotes? Can you find a research study showing that junk food is a healthy diet for a pregnant woman?

No one here even implied such a thing. You’re embarrassing yourself.

Here are some quotes from the thread:

"You do realize there are pregnant women who live off junk food their whole pregnancy, right? I promise you eating some junk food isn’t going to make your child have a career working at McDonald’s"
"I ate nothing but hamburgers and Girl Scout cookies my first pregnancy. My kid is 98th percentile for height and 82nd for weight and has hit all her milestones several months early. Eat whatever you want."

Heh. I ate a box of cheese ittz at work every 3 days and a jar of jam at 10 pm after putting the oldest to bed with this second baby. Managed to gain less weight with her than the first one (35 lbs instead of 50) and it's now 8 months pp and I have 8ish left to drop and it'll stick until I wean anyway.
Eat what you want. Not too much. Eat lots of veg and fruit and drink water.
Of course unless you have underlying issues like diabetes or other things.

And the OP states "very occasionally". Which presumes not every meal and possibly something like once a week.

I’m overweight and ate plenty of junk along with my red raspberry leaf tea and kale. I had two successful (vaginal, pain med free, no stitches) deliveries with the midwives and Whitney never said boo about my diet or my weight - and I never lied to them about my diet and exercise.

Honestly, the GW midwives’ diet is so insanely restrictive (and time consuming and expensive) that I’m not surprised OP would be asking this if she was on board in the first place. It’s orthorexia level ridiculousness and they are judgmental jerks about it. And this is coming from somebody who still are more healthfully than 90% of other pregnant people I knew. Only person who followed this diet is someone who is diet obsessed and spends hours of her day thinking about nutrition. Her child’s first year birthday cake was zucchini bread made with hemp hearts (Which I like for the record) and whole wheat flour and unsweetened. And I mean she made the rest of us eat it. So, OP, eat what you want at this point. You’re good.

OP, lighten up please. I hope you aren’t having a daughter with your mindset about food. Yikes.

My mom smoked though all 3 of her pregnancies (early 60s). We are all in good health in our late 50s. And so is mom at nearly 90.

So, pretzels.

It's fine. My last pregnancy, I craved pancakes. I ate them 3 or more a week smothered in syrup. I'm fine and my now 3 year old is fine.

I did not go to the midwives at GW but one of my coworkers did and told me about the nutrition lectures she got. Don't worry, OP.

I've been eating fairly healthy (5+ servings of fruits/veggies) but still eating carbs probably 4 times per day (either 1-2 pieces of bread, or 1-2 servings of brown rice, and 1 handful of Fritos (craving the salt!)). I've had some stomach issues, and on those days I drink full-sugar gatorade.

Well, I went in for my 20 week scan two weeks ago. Turns out my baby is underweight, and I got sent to a specialist. I've been told to increase the amount of red meat, carbs, other protein, and anything the baby wanted including Fritos or gatorade.

Background - I have a higher BMI normally; 10 lbs above normal. During pregnancy, I had not gained any maternal weight from 12 to 20 weeks. I also normally have a huge sweet tooth, but have only craved salty things since becoming pregnant. I have terrible heartburn, so I have to eat tiny meals or else I get bad nausea/heartburn.

Talk to you provider, but I'm supposed to be going to town on anything I/baby want. You should follow the guidance of your provider on what to eat so that you are comfortable.

I survived on Dr Pepper and Fritos my first tri with #2. Doctor said that sounded fine.

The only person I know who followed the GW diet exactly ended up with a borderline low-birthweight baby with some complications. I have no idea if there's a connection - but the diet is no guarantee, and as others have said, it can lead to unhealthy fixations.

If you have literally eaten NO "junk food" for eight months, and you feel like you are doing something so bad by doing so that you need to post here for reassurance, then I think the more important question is whether you have an anxiety or eating disorder.

Even if you don't have any disorder, my concern is that you're exactly the type of perfectionist/Type A woman who is far too invested in "doing everything right." With the midwives this can be really bad, because they will play into the notion that it's "bad" to get an epidural. It's fine if you go without, but know that pain relief is good and most women welcome it.

My first pregnancy I had the strangest cravings for instant mashed potatoes so I ate them all the time. I was shocked when I gave birth to powdered potato mix. It took some getting used to, and we have to add milk and butter to her every so often, but we love her anyway.
