Eating junk food very occasionally while pregnant?

Anonymous
For my first pregnancy, I ate super healthy -- all organic vegetables, the "right" amount of protein, no junk food, etc. That baby -- now a teenager -- is autistic and eats a super-restrictive diet.

For my second pregnancy, my mom was in the hospital the last half of pregnancy and I ate only super processed food from the hospital cafeteria. That baby -- now a tween -- is laid back, healthy, and eats everything and especially loves salad greens.

A bag of pretzels, even two bags of pretzels, is not going to hurt the baby. Not eating them is no guarantee of anything.

I've had some stomach issues, and on those days I drink full-sugar gatorade.

Well, I went in for my 20 week scan two weeks ago. Turns out my baby is underweight, and I got sent to a specialist. I've been told to increase the amount of red meat, carbs, other protein, and anything the baby wanted including Fritos or gatorade.

Background - I have a higher BMI normally; 10 lbs above normal. During pregnancy, I had not gained any maternal weight from 12 to 20 weeks. I also normally have a huge sweet tooth, but have only craved salty things since becoming pregnant. I have terrible heartburn, so I have to eat tiny meals or else I get bad nausea/heartburn.

Talk to you provider, but I'm supposed to be going to town on anything I/baby want. You should follow the guidance of your provider on what to eat so that you are comfortable.

There’s nothing wrong with carbs!

Her son is a happy, healthy,, college sophomore.

I like to dip pretzels in chocolate ice cream.

Ok, this made me laugh so hard! When I was pregnant with my second DS all I wanted was McDonald's breakfast. I have not had McDonald's since I gave birth. Your child will be fine OP

I don't know why anyone would restrict their diet so drastically unless they had something like gestational diabetes.

I am pregnant now and I am putting back some record quantities of egg mcmuffins. They pretty much melt in my mouth.

I hope she doesn't get mixed up with some gravy kid. Bad news!

The GW midwives are dietary fascists. Enjoy the honey mustard pretzel bits.

Also birth fascists....but that’s a different conversation.

Wow, the GW Midwives sound like absolute nightmares. I'm glad I worked with non-judgmental, supportive midwives elsewhere.

My OB didn't even give me a dietary guidance list when I went in to see her at the start of my first pregnancy. Just said, don't eat sushi or lunchmeat. Other than that, you are still a normal person, eat like a normal person. Take a regular multivitamin. Eat the dang pretzels.
