You think I can do it? I’m not a spring chick any more either. |
What’s the fastest mile you’ve ever done? |
Depending on how fast you used to run and how much is muscle etc - yes. I’m near 50 and can run a very fast mile and by BMI standards not thin. |
Are you in shape? |
Yeah I’m a beast in the weight room. I can probably run a 8 minute mile. Fastest mile ever was around 6:30 20 plus years ago |
Yes if you are are a regular exerciser. |
Yes. But running training philosophy has changed a lot from 20 even 5 years ago. Now much more efficient Spend time reading on it. The peloton app has been free during covid. Matt Wilpers or Becs Gentry have some good running classes that would help you build speed. |
Assuming you’re generally in good health and a non smoker, even if you are not thin, you can improve your mile a lot if you stick to a training plan and are consistent about practicing. |
How tall? My husband runs a 7 minute mile at 215. He’s 6’4 though. |
Running has also become a lot less intimidating for newbies with a lot of programs like couch to 5k out there in the past 20 years. |
6 foot 4 210 lbs but I’m old ![]() |
Why Do you even want to do that? |
No such thing. You can do it! |
Because I want to prove to myself I can be a stud athlete again? |
For 1 mile? What's your current time? I generally run around a 9 minute mile at my best and can sustain that for a 10 miler h. I'm 43 and have no desire to be faster at this point. I did get faster when I lost weight. When I started I was super out of shape and could barely run around a city block. I'm very fit now and could NOT run a 7 minute mile for a full mile. That's 8.6 on the treadmill and I wouldn't fathom sprinting at that speed. Doesn't work for my body. But if it does for you, go for it! |
