7 minute mile over 200 lbs

That’s easily doable. Several miles at 7 minutes is challenging. One 7 minute mile is not difficult at all. Do a little speed work. I’m 52 and can do a mile in just under 6 minutes. And I am definitely not a fast runner.

Are you 200 lbs bro? It’s a bit harder

Are you male?

I am female, and in my early 40's, I started running track for the first time since high school. In my second or third track season, I got down below seven minute miles, and below a six minute pace for a quarter mile lap. I was not skinny- 155 lbs or so, probably near the high end of normal BMI. So if you are in good shape and put in the track work- maybe?

OP are you 6’ and a man? Otherwise you should be protecting your joints a bit more.

This. For a one time goal, sure you can train for it. As a consistent training plan - no. A hard no

Oh, shut up. Science says otherwise, you dolt.

OP: yes. The mile is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic. My mile training plan doesn’t have a true long run, but two 8’s per week. I start off the first four weeks with a workout that has a long warmup (2 miles) and then sets of 200’s and 100’s to develop turnover. After a few weeks I add in a second track workout that has longer reps (but almost always at least a small set of 200’s) that work different body systems. Some longer intervals at threshold pace. Some 800’s. Sometimes 400’s where the second half of the lap must be faster than the first half. The other days of the week I run very easy paced miles and aim for 30 miles per week.

You’re very concerned with your weight but if you develop power and turnover yes you can do this. It is all about specific training. It might seem like a short distance but if you’re serious about your time you need to be dedicated to it. There are plenty of guys in my area who are your weight and faster than this.

You can do it- just take care of your feet/ wear good shoes etc. plantar fasciitis is rough and the risk increases with weight and high impact activities.

That is really not bad at all. I am the poster who detailed some of my mile training plan. As a female last year my first mile of the year was a 6:20 without any mile specific training. 4 months later after doing the training I outlined I ran 5:40.
