Exercise during fasting part of IF

Anonymous
I'm experimenting with this trying to get my weight loss to move faster.

I went running a few mornings ago. I had enough energy to run, but since then I've been starving during my fasting time. Had to eat in the middle of the night.

Good or bad experiences out there?

Thanks.

I normally work out closer to the end of my fasting window so I can eat right afterwards.

I don't think I would attempt working out several hours before my eating window because I know I will be starving afterwards. If you're going to do a morning workout, I'd suggest moving your window up so you're not miserable.

Do an IF on your rest day. No way is it possible to do a *good* workout while your IFing.

I’ve worked out almost every morning since I started IF. At first it’s hard, but you get used to it. It’s completely fine.

I'd been doing IF for a month and quickly adjusted to it.

When I upped my exercise, I found that my hunger actually woke me up at night. There's tolerating and then there's STARVING.

I guess I have to keep experimenting.

What does your meal routine for IF look like - times and types of food? Thanks.

+1 I’ve been fasting and running for 3+ years and run during fast. I probably wouldn’t do more than 6 mile run, but it’s fine

This. It actually helps pass time til you can eat again imho.

Have been for 2.5 years. One hour boxing classes, weight lifting, now peloton treadmill boot camps. I do them all late morning and then break my fast. I’m in the best shape ever and have muscle growth. Also I have no problems making it through the workout.

Observed Ramadan last year. No food or water from 3:30am until 6:30pm every day for a month. I worked out 5-6 times per week, no problem. I have been doing IF for 5 years so my body is used to it.

I usually exercise a couple hours before I break fast. I'm really hungry before I eat on those days so I have to keep busy during that interim period. The exception, however, is when I've been following the program beyond a couple weeks. The cravings wane.

I can tell you that my results are EXCELLENT if I stick with it.

It doesn’t matter if you exercise fasted or not fasted. The only way to speed up weight loss is to create a bigger calorie deficit. Don’t overthink this. Move more, eat less.

I pretty much always exercise fasted because I tend to exercise first thing in the morning. Hunger is just a result of exercise, but because you did it fasted.

When I exercise at say, 6am after not eating for about 14 hours, I am not as strong but I think it is worth it. Body is working off fat reserves.
