Mother’s Day in quarantine

Since there will be no brunches out or spa trips etc, what is everyone planning? I usually go stay in a hotel for the night and my family comes and swims and we have brunch. Obv not doing that. Just seems extra depressing this year.

You get to have a low key Mother's Day at home.

We will probably cook some bacon, which I will eat along with sipping tea or coffee and taking a long time to read the Sunday paper.

Works for me! But I don't really put a lot of stock into Mother's Day in the first place. As long as I get a little break and the kids get the chance to learn how to show gratitude... I don't need much more.

No idea. I’ll be happy if my 3 year old has a relatively tantrum free day!

I usually make a list of small things I like for my family/dh to do for me. Like chores that DH is too busy to do usually. I'm getting a chandelier installed, shelf installed, and gardening work done. I also like a nice picnic with wine. My kids make me cards.

My love language is acts of service, though, so chores really appeal to me. hah. My kids are young and DH is bad a gifts though so I prefer to not get gifts (at least ones my kids didn't make)

That's pretty obnoxious.

DH and I agreed that we will make a special meal for each holiday we have to celebrate at home, and then later when things have gone back to normal, we will do something special over one weekend for ALL the occasions we couldn't properly celebrate.

One hotel stay, one fancy dinner, one cake, etc.

If you are a mother and alive or have one that is alive WTF complaining about! I mean really depressing it's a commercial day and has nothing to do with love for or being grateful for a mother. There's plenty to be depressed about during this outbreak but not this, AMERICAN problems! Try being a refugee or in Italy or Spain ….

My mom is alive and well, my husband's mom is alive and well. I am alive and well. Happy Mother's Day!

If my kids make me some cards and we can do maybe take-out Chinese, that would be wonderful.

(It's easy for me this year, as that is always what I ask for, anyway.)

There is no need for anyone to sweat or stress to make any holiday happen this year. We're together; it's enough.

I'm making my mom and MIL photo books of the kids. The kids will make cards too.

My husband will probably cook me a nice breakfast at home and I'll have a day free of chores.

My family makes breakfast while I sleep in / go for a walk, maybe gives a little gift, we go for a hike and grab lunch on the way home, I usually take a nap, then we all just hang out, order pizza so no one has to make dinner or do dishes, watch a movie, go to bed. The goal is very little work for everyone involved.

Why? DH actually asks me what I'd like done. He's happy doing it too. We all get along well and have a pleasant day. What part is obnoxious??

Count your blessings. If you're capable.

For those who have lived with and celebrated Mother’s Day their entire lives it’s more than just a commercial holiday. Every single holiday that anyone celebrates was manufactured at some point anyway (usually by someone with an agenda), so you could say the same of just about any of them. Once they are adopted by a society it doesn’t matter so much where they came from; it’s about tradition, celebration, and honoring something.

As for AMERICAN problems, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that you are talking to Americans here.
