Emotional cost? Financial cost? Not sure what you mean by relate to it. Do you mean afford it?

I don’t know what you mean, but as a single woman, I spent over $50,000 for adoption, and it was worth every penny. If you’ve got it, spend it.

There are various factors, but on average $100,000 +

I too am a single mom by choice. I adopted my child 20 years ago, and it was about 30K. But 100K for surrogacy? I don't know about that. I have several friends who did it and I doubt they spent that much, because frankly they don't have that kind of money.

Surrogates get paid about $30K. The IVF costs can be the biggest expense in surrogacy, especially if it takes a few cycles to get a viable pregnancy.

What do you think it costs?

If I were born from such pregnancy I think it would adversely affect my entire life. I would feel like goods,
a product but not as a person.

No you wouldn't, because you wouldn't know an alternative. You'd just be a kid, happy and similar to all kids.

Agreed. Especially if your parents were opening and welcoming with the truth. It's not some sordid little secret. It's a different way of building a family.

A friend of mine was a surrogate. The kids she carried are great and have great parents. She keeps in contact with them like a distant but fond aunt.

My best friend and his partner (same sex couple) spent upwards of $150k. This includes lawyers, egg donor, IVF process, surrogate costs.

OP, the costs will vary depending on a few things. There are several websites that lay out all the costs, but for us it was -

Gestational Carrier - $25k (costs can run higher for 2nd time)
Lawyer - $25k
Procedure - $15k
Miscellaneous - $5-10k

I already had embryos, but we did pay for testing so that was a little more. For us, it was a great experience and I'm still in frequent contact with out GC. I have two other friends who went down this route, and everyone had a different experience.

What procedure are you referring to? The actual transfer of the embryo? That seems a little high. Or do you mean the hospital costs for labor and delivery

Sorry - procedure was for the embryo transfer - but before that could happen there was lots of tests, exams, psych consults, meetings with everyone, etc. that had to be paid for.

I know a young woman who was very recently considering being a surrogate and she said whoever she was checking with told her $60,000 to her. It wasn't an individual it was a company that does that stuff.
