So far Georgetown Cupcake because the red velvet is delicious. But... jeez can anyone receommd a good substitute for less than $17 for 6???? Am I subsidizing the M St. or new Bethesda location or are they using some ingredient that makes them cost so much?

I love all cupcakes. I don't have a favorite cupcake, but I can tell you what I like about certain ones. I love Georgetown Cupcakes frosting. I think their actual cake is a little dry, but their frosting flavors can't be beat. There's a pink cupcake truck, I forget the name, that drives around the city. Their website will tell you exactly where they will be each day. I thought their cakes are more moist, but not so good frosting. I never got into Cake Love (Tysons' Corner) cupcakes. Just thought they didn't have anything unique and were overpriced. I'd rather eat Giant cupcakes. I'm not a fan of Whole Foods cupcakes either. My friend threw a cupcake party awhile back and had to miss that. I thought that was genius - to have a cupcake tasting party!

I LOVE Baked&Wired cupcakes---je ne sais quois! okay it's been 20 years since my 4 years of french..not sure why! I ate them when I was pregnant and found them heavenly...haven't been back in awhile.

live in georgetown and luckily my preschooler does not like the georgetown cupcakes---he prefers Safeway. It's because the georgetown cupcakes have a creamcheese based frosting (from what I'm told) that most kids don't like as much. thank goodness--much cheaper this way! he also loves the Whole Food mini cupcakes.

OP here; I like the idea of the cupcake tasting party, but I heard there was a cupcake crawl last fall, which I thought was GENIUS!

washington post did a taste test of DC cupcakes which they posted over several weeks last year. You can probably search for it. Georgetown Cupcakes won

Baked and Wired, but you have to call ahead. They don't have a good selection if you just go in. Lemon raspberry...all I have to say.

Oops, PP here. I got a little excited and forgot to mention WHY. Hehe. I've been three times, and each time they've been so moist, and their frosting isn't overly sweet. They have a good variety of flavors. Last time, we bought a few and shared them. My favorites were pumpkin fennel, mexican birthday, and the triple belgium chocolate. Mmm.

Alexandria cupcake on King St???????

Never heard of this place - when did it open?

I love Georgetown Cupcakes and Baked & Wired as well, both delicious! I did not like Cake Love at all, horribly dry and much worse than your regular grocery store cupcake.

I thought Georgetown Cupcakes uses buttercream frosting???

Right now, I rate Georgetown, Baked and Wired and Buzz in the top tier - haven't been able to pick a winner among them. I wasn't that impressed with Red Velvet or Hello, and am not a fan of Cakelove or Whole Foods cupcakes. I haven't tried Lavender Moon, though.
