Best cupcakes

I find most cupcakes are overrated. I prefer the little eurpean-style tarts with custard, fruit, and glaze on them.

I could eat hundreds in one sitting... y.u.m.

"Now, if I'm feeling frugal, Cook's Illustrated has a quick vanilla cupcake recipe with chocolate ganache frosting that requires very little work and is reliably delicious."

The Post has Georgetown Cupcake's recipe for chocolate cupcakes on its website (Food Section), if you're interested.

Magnolia Bakery - in the West Village.

Just Cakes in Bethesda! They are incredible. They did my wedding cake last year and I go back every chance I can get. Moist, very flavorful.

They also do host cake decorating birthday parties for little kids; I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to do that!

Yum- I love Just Cakes! Their lemon, carrot, red velvet. Hell they're all delicious. Pricey but worth it!

I think their actual cake is a little dry, but their frosting flavors can't be beat. There's a pink cupcake truck, I forget the name, that drives around the city. Their website will tell you exactly where they will be each day. I thought their cakes are more moist, but not so good frosting. I never got into Cake Love (Tysons' Corner) cupcakes. Just thought they didn't have anything unique and were overpriced. I'd rather eat Giant cupcakes. I'm not a fan of Whole Foods cupcakes either. My friend threw a cupcake party awhile back and had to miss that. I thought that was genius - to have a cupcake tasting party!

wow, you know a lot about these cupcake places. i think we NEED to be friends.

I've tried Alexandria cupcake and didn't really like it. I thought the flavor of the cupcakes (tried two different flavors) lacked depth. I prefer Lavender Moon. Can't compare to Georgetown or Red Velvet b/c I haven't tried those.

For the PP who asked, Alexandria Cupcake is on King near Route 1 North. I think it opened a month or two ago.

I just tried Red Velvet and LOVED it. I thought it better than Georgetown, CakeLove, and MUCH better than Fancy Cakes by Leslie.

Love the lemon cupcakes at Hello Cupcake!!

Fancy Cakes by Leslie may or may not have good cupcakes... but she straight up RUINED my wedding cake. Such a waste of $1000.

Something Sweet on Macomb St. recently opened and I am so happy. I like their cupcakes better than G'town. The all vanilla is my favorite.
