| At mass today online it was mentioned right after Jesus opened gates of Heaven he pulled Adam up. First I ever heard. Kinda makes sense he was waiting the longest. But what about Eve? Did she go to Hell or Heaven? |
You should have asked the priest. I was raised Catholic and never heard this one before. |
| Nonsense. |
| Didn't Abel die before his parents? |
A fourth Century mural unearthed in an underground Catholic Church depicted it |

Harrowing of Hell is where it comes from |
| I've never totally understood this, but I thought all the pre-Jesus people are still waiting to enter heaven. |
| Adam isn’t real, so no. |
| So gullible. |
| I can’t believe people think of Adam as a real person. Adam is symbolic of man. God didn’t plop a human on earth and name him Adam. I’m a minister. I love sacred scripture. Genesis is beautiful poetry. It’s full of amazing symbolism and allegory. It was not created to be read like a science textbook. |
First of all, it's not the fault of a lay person if they believe "Adam" was a real person. Christians have been taught for a thousand plus years that Adam was a person, so the fault lies with the "priests" who teach this. Secondly, how do you really know that Adam was not real? I'm not saying it's one way or the other, I'm just curious how you would know this for a fact? It's like atheists saying that God is not real, but I assume you believe there is a God, right? Do you believe that Jesus was the son of God and came down to save us from our sins? Or is Jesus a "symbolism", too? Third, I do believe that humans evolved; there's too much scientific proof of the evidence. What you stated makes sense in that regard but you sure do come off as not a "minister". -signed a life long Christian |
Thank you! |

The Gospel of Nicodemus describes what happens between Christ’s death and resurrection. During this time, he descended into Hades and pulled up Adam and Eve. This is always part of Lenten services in the Orthodox Church. |
+1 With all the scientific knowledge we now have showing the earth has existed for billions of years you still believe there was an “Adam”? |

I’m Catholic and I’m pretty sure that I was always taught Elijah went to heaven. That would have been pre-Jesus.
2 Kings 2:11 “Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.” First Maccabees 2:58 “Elijah because of great zeal for the Law was taken up into heaven.” |
