Genesis is beautiful poetry. It’s full of amazing symbolism and allegory. It was not created to be read like a science textbook.

What parts of the Bible are meant to be read like a science textbook? i.e., what parts of the bible can be taken at face value? (e.g., the part about Jesus being born of a virgin, rising from the dead, being the son of man, capable of forgiving our sins)

With all the scientific knowledge we now have showing the earth has existed for billions of years you still believe there was an “Adam”?

Actually science tells us there was a Mitochondrial Eve and a Y Chromosomal Adam. Single individuals who we are all descended from through our mothers or fathers.

Hey, also mention these things, why dontcha:

- Mitochondrial Eve is hypothetical and that term is a euphemism
- She and Y Chromosomal Adam may not have lived at the same time
- Science also tells us there were antecedents
- None of this - NONE - is in support of or consistent with biblical scripture or young earth creationism. No. Not yours.

The Gospel of Nicodemus describes what happens between Christ’s death and resurrection. During this time, he descended into Hades and pulled up Adam and Eve. This is always part of Lenten services in the Orthodox Church.

OP just like mass on TV today

I'd definitely say it was Abel. He's called righteous in Genesis 4, and Chris Himself refers to him as a prophet. And he's the first one mentioned as dying.

Isn't the Credo the basis of the Catholic faith?... let me look up there is something there about who.. what and how..

descendit ad inferos, tertia die resurrexit a mortuis,
ascendit ad caelos, sedet ad dexteram Dei Patris omnipotentis,
inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos.
Credo in Spiritum Sanctum,
sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem,
remissionem peccatorum,
carnis resurrectionem,
vitam aeternam.
Amen.[19]

So that part... bolded below.. would suggest that nobody has been judged as of yet?...
so in theory Aunt Lola or Uncle Steve should not be in Heaven or Hell or even Purgatory?...
because they have not been judged?

No wonder spirits are EVERYWHRE.. there is literarly no room to put them anywhere anymore.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of the saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

You have to wait for the resurrection to get to heaven.

Maybe not but he fun factor is there.

Hades uuuu.. Hades... in the ancient Greek religion and myth, is the god of the dead and the king of the underworld, with which his name became synonymous. Hades was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although the last son regurgitated by his father.

So one could assume.

Then explain me that.. why people tell kids that Grandma or Grandpa is in heaven.. because you know, eventually they will grow up and call the bluff.. or this or that.. or that..
