Coates and McNair, yes. Floris’ FARMs rate is like 8% (+\-) so no. |
I’m here for the advice. How does one parent well during years 4-11? |
Love Consistency Responsibility Let them make mistakes and give them realistic consequences. Never tell them that they are bad people. Help them see when they make bad choices. That said. Middle School is a whole other world. Don't be a helicopter, but do be aware. It's not always easy. |
DP. No phone until middle school. Limit all other screen use for everyone in the family including adults. Get your kids into activities that keep them busy. The goal is to reduce time on screens, not to turn them Amish. Be involved. Ask questions and let your kids ask you questions and give them honest answers, with no judgement for asking and no embarrassment. Be polite to other families but don’t feel bad if you have to decline an invitation because you’re “out of town” the weekend that an overly permissive family with rough older kids is throwing a birthday party at the neighborhood pool. |
Yes, 4 years of French in person and 2 years of Latin via satellite out of Varina high school. The Latin teacher was better and I learned more in that class than in the 4 years of French. |
| PP again. I also took AP Statistics via satellite as it wasn't offered at my school and it was the easiest 5 on and AP exam I ever got. Remote classes aren't worse than in-person when they are planned and taught remote on purpose - not whatever we got during Covid. |
| Seema Dixit sent an email gloating about getting her own neighborhood off the boundary adjustment. |
Please share. |

Yes, that was oddly written. She was "pleased" that she personally redlined an apartment building full of poor kids over from CVHS to Westfield but protected her own neighborhood from being moved?\
She has certainly not been advocating at all for the Westfield community. -------------------------- As we enter the final stretch of the Skyview High School boundary process, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to engage, share feedback, attend meetings, send emails, join Zoom calls, or speak with me by phone. It has been incredibly valuable to hear directly from community members and better understand your concerns, questions, and priorities. Over the past several months, I have spent a significant amount of time advocating on behalf of our communities with FCPS staff, the Superintendent's team, and my colleagues on the School Board. I am pleased that many of the concerns raised when the first set of draft maps was released have been acknowledged and addressed. At the same time, there are still a few important issues that I continue to work on and advocate for as we move toward the final proposal. |
Short version: "Rest assured I will continue to advocate that FCPS throw Westfield under a bus if that's what makes my Chantilly constituents and and Centreville neighbors happy." |
|
Are we going to see one scenario or more than one on June 16th?
I don't like they are taking so long to finalize this. |
They said one scenario and they will ask for more feedback. They really should have taken the original four scenarios, built a new one based on feedback and just said "this is what we're doing." This whole thing has caused so much drama, has literally ruined friendships, and wasted so many people's time. |
Yep. She clearly doesn't think she needs votes from the entire half of Centreville that will be attending an emptied-out Westfield with no teachers under 65 and no APs or electives. |
| I guess...respect for the honesty? She isn't even bothering to pay lip service to her Westfield-zoned constituents. Its just, "Yeah, I screwed you over. Too bad so sad." |
|
I can't think of any time in the past where FCPS has moved out 700 students from a school and then just left it to languish.
